Kirk seems slightly amused (not to mention bemused) by the kneeling. He's not used to this sort of thing, although it's happened to him once or twice before. He reaches a hand down, gesturing Shang back to his feet, "That's quite alright, Captain. There's no need to kneel to me. I'm not an Emperor. I'm just a starship captain."
He smiled warmly, "Regardless, that's quite an impressive resume."
Kirk didn't know all that much about Ancient Chinese history, but he knew a few small pieces.
"We'd be glad to have your assistance. You say you trained troops before? Well, I think you'd do well working with the head of our training department, Master Chief. We're not exactly using just bows and swords, but having everyone receive training in hand-to-hand combat techniques certainly wouldn't hurt."
