This Man's Home Is A Castle [OPEN]

When he first saw it weeks ago, shortly after the crew had finally caught up him, he thought for certain that he was hallucinating. But there it was, nestled among several other castles. The Luthor Mansion, in all it's glory.

Lex was never a superstitious man, but even he believed that there was more to heaven and earth than what could be proven on paper. The appearance of his home, a reward no other crew member had received (to his knowledge), certainly made him think. He wondered if this was some sort of sign that his decisions so far had indeed been right, or that he was on the right path. Perhaps it was put there as a distraction of sorts, as well, as there were many unpleasant memories that haunted those walls. For the time being, he decided to take it as a reward, however relocating there initially proved to be problematic.

The Mansion wasn't in disarray, but it was clear that no one had walked its halls in quite some time. Not only that, but the last people who had clearly had little regard for the property. There was a layer of dirt and dust everywhere, expensive and priceless paintings had been torn off the walls and trashed, priceless artifacts were just broken pieces of clay or stone, pieces of antique furniture had been smashed, and every vault was empty. Not a single green meteor rock to be found. He counted himself lucky that his pool table, piano, and a handful of family photos managed to survive.

Rather than be dejected, Lex looked at it as project to occupy his time. Since he only worked in Neuropathy whenever he felt like it, and manned the bar in the lounge at his discretion, he did have plenty of time to devote to this project. Which was good, because cleaning up and fixing up a 40 room mansion-- replete with its own library (with real books), well supplied medieval armory and modern armory, pool, wine cellar, gym, and grand ballroom-- took a lot of work.

Work which still hadn't been completed, but he had progressed far enough to not only make it livable, but also presentable. The master bedroom, Lex's office, and most of the common areas had been cleaned up. All the rest was blocked off for the moment, but were in locations that were fairly out of the way.

So, he put out a message on the omnicomms, and invited a few people to check the place out. The ones who weren't already spying on him, at any rate. He laid out a few drinks, and a sampling of some of the fresh fruit and food he picked up while during their last mission to earth. He didn't expect many guests, after all, he had never been the most well liked person, even back when he was a relatively kindhearted kid. Most parties he hosted as an adult, he was usually surrounded by obsequious employees desperate to move up the food chain, business partners who wanted a more favorable deal, business rivals who were trying to find out something about the competition, charity representatives who wanted money, and sycophants who wanted the notoriety of being in the same room as Lex Luthor and access to the connections that alone can bring. Friends were simply a foreign concept, if he ever truly had any to begin with, and he certainly hadn't gone out of his way to make any on the ship. He was curious as to what category his guests, if he had any, would fit in.

((ooc: This is something of a party style post, so feel free to talk to Lex, Lois, or talk to each other while your character looks around.))

Lois shrugged, casually, and closed the door behind them, careful not to hit any of the creepy dragon thing's creepy dragon appendages.

"Lex Luthor? Yeah. I share a timeline with the cretin. We're not exactly friends, but he's a character alright."

She ignored the disappearance of Blondie –– after all, security was NOT her deal –– and gestured around them in the entrance hall.

"This is the front hall. Thousands of stuffy businessmen have been through here, as well as Lex's variety of arm-candy-of-the-hour."

Kang only watched curiously for a moment when the blonde woman disappeared, being polite and listening to Lois as she talked. As much as he wanted alcohol, he wasn't about to be rude. He was curious about the architecture of the building as well, enough that it wasn't too much of a struggle to push intoxicating beverages for after he went on the tour.

It wouldn't do to not introduce himself to his fellow tourist or the tour guide either. The bozak laughed, "Acquaintances, then. My name is Kang, by the way."

Nate didn't think too much about it. He was used to people just up and disappearing like that. I happened a lot when you were doing the hero thing. Nate listened to Lois' direction, smiling slightly. She was by far the best tour guide he'd ever had. At least she made the experience enjoyable.

Nate was about to ask whether the woman knew where Lex was, but when Kang introduced himself, the boy did a double take, staring at him for a long moment. "...Kang?"
governorkang: (Neutral)

Tour guide momentarily forgotten, Kang blinked, turning to look at Nate, "...you know of me?" As far as he knew, his name was not very common, and especially in human cultures.

Somehow, Lois didn't imagine she would forget Godzilla's real name, but she plugged that into her brain anyway. Kang. Right.

She smiled right back at Nate and put her hands on her hips. This would be so much more fun when she had some bubbly in her.

At the dragon-man's question, Nate quickly shook his head, pulling up a smile as he resisted the urge to massage his temples. His head was killing him. "Oh no. I just.." killed someone by that name once, "knew someone who went by that name once. He wasn't the nicest guy." He laughed, shrugging.

Tilting his head at Lois, he somehow remembered his manners. The presence of an attractive young woman probably helped. Holding out his hand, he offered her an easy grin. "I'm Nate by the way. Sorry about that. Forgot my manners for a second."

Blinking again, Kang shook his head. That description easily could have been him in the past. He never really had considered himself as a 'nice' person anyways; he was a draconian. "...alright." He was curious now, but he'd save any questions for later.

[identity profile] morewildcherry.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
She took Nate's hand and shook it, firmly.

"It happens. I'm Lois, nice to meet you."

And then after a pause to look at Kang's hands and contemplate if you really shook hands with a dragon or not, she offered her hand (albeit a bit awkwardly) to him, too.

"And nice to meet you too, Kang."

[identity profile] wheresmysuit.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he may have been a lot of things, but Nate sincerely doubted the Draconian was anywhere near as bad as his time-traveling dictator of a future self. He was glad the man(?) let the issue drop.

He rturned the handshake. "S'good to meet you Lois. You wouldn't happen to know where Lex is, would you?" Because you know, he's like, pals with the guy.
governorkang: (Having fun)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-01-11 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Kang had no desire to conquer anything or the ability to travel through time, so he had the other!Kang on a couple of points, even if he himself was considered a dictator by some.

He shook Lois's hand, being careful to keep his claws from her skin, his grip somewhat weak. "You as well, ma'am."

[identity profile] morewildcherry.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
And she just shook hands with a spooky dragon thing. Creepy. But she smile and tried not to think about what it would be like to live with lizardy scales.

"He's somewhere in the house, I think." And then, with a grin: "We'll run into him later, hopefully when he's wearing pants and isn't making humanity look like a bunch of psychopaths."

[identity profile] wheresmysuit.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Nat wouldn't have minded really. Because honestly, he was friends with Lex Luthor. He could accept people without bothering what they'd been back home. But the name still held far too much meaning for him.

He laughed at the joke. "Lex didn't exactly strike me as the type to wander around pantsless. But then, this is his home. So all bets are off, huh?" Also, not how he ignored the psychopath part of the joke.
governorkang: (Now that's funny / Smirking)

[personal profile] governorkang 2010-01-12 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Kang could tell the woman was slightly uncomfortable around him, but she seemed to be dealing with it well enough. Nate just seemed uncomfortable about his name.

Having been raised by humans, he did get the joke, and laughed as well, "He invited people over. I hope he has the sense to stay clothed."

"Rich people are eccentric," Lois replied, dismissively, and took a few steps back. She gestured for them to follow as she turned around and headed through a doorway.

"Now... this ship decided to take the house alone, so we're going to skip the sculpture garden, the swimming pool and the greenhouse. Why don't we start with the library?"
