Silence [open]

She'd been met by silence. Silence so loud that it hurt.

That's all there seemed to be.

It was eerie walking around Serenity and not running into Zöe or Wash, strange not seeing Simon in the infirmary, and it felt wrong not seeing Shepard Book studying his bible at the table. It was even strange not running into a leering Jayne.

Inara was finding that she missed them all. Missed the cheeriness that at most times could not only be found, but felt aboard Serenity.

That's part of the reason she found herself standing beside the ship, her hand resting lightly on the hull and staring up at it - her eyes wide and dark. Her fingers brush slowly against the cool metal and she shook her head. It wasn't right not having the whole crew there.

Lister looks partially stunned. "You don't have the shami kebab? Everyone's got to try one, at least once in their life! You've honestly never had one?"

Mentally, Lister is calling her universe backwards.

She shook her head, and her dark curls bounced with her movements. "Honestly, I've never tried one... What exactly is it?"

"It's taste heaven, especially if it's made with a special recipe," Lister isn't being much help in the explanation department. "Tell you what, have you seen the Sensoriums yet? Why don't we head up there now, and I'll show you what I'm talking about."

And for once, Lister doesn't realise that he's asking Inara for a semi-date, he's too concerned with overcoming the fact that she's never had a shami Kebab. Heresy.

"I have not seen them yet," Inara smiled and nodded her head. "That would be most kind of you to show me what this shami kebab is. Are you sure I'm not keeping you from anything of importance?"

Lister wiggles a hand dismissively. "There's nothing important going on. If we hear screams and explosions, that's usually the start of something important."

And they can run and hide in the opposite direction. "Come on, I'll show you. First, we gotta get out of this place. Ladies first?"
