Silence [open]

She'd been met by silence. Silence so loud that it hurt.

That's all there seemed to be.

It was eerie walking around Serenity and not running into Zöe or Wash, strange not seeing Simon in the infirmary, and it felt wrong not seeing Shepard Book studying his bible at the table. It was even strange not running into a leering Jayne.

Inara was finding that she missed them all. Missed the cheeriness that at most times could not only be found, but felt aboard Serenity.

That's part of the reason she found herself standing beside the ship, her hand resting lightly on the hull and staring up at it - her eyes wide and dark. Her fingers brush slowly against the cool metal and she shook her head. It wasn't right not having the whole crew there.

"I'm new as well. I've had many strange things happen to me but nothing quite like this." Although being kidnapped by Kl'rt was a close one. "It's comforting to find things from home here. I take it you know this ship?"

"Yes, yes I do," Inara nodded, glancing over at the ship for a moment. "I rent, well rented a shuttle from her in my universe. Her name is Serenity. It's amazing that she's here." Inara wasn't going to pretend to even understand why and how something like that had come to pass, but it had.

"Is there anything familiar fere from your universe?"

"Yes, a much smaller plane, an Avengers quinjet. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mansion itself is here in the city."

The type of plane meant nothing to her, and it probably showed on her expression. Though, the next bit, she did understand. "Mansion? What sort of mansion?"

"Are you from a world with super heroes? I belonged to a team known as the Avengers. We take care of super villains and other threats. Our headquarters is the Avengers Mansion, it's owned by our benefactor, Mr. Stark. We assemble there. Mr. Stark lets full time Avengers live there if they have no other housing. It's where I lived with my husband until we left some months ago."

"Well there are people who act like they are, but actual one? No." Her head tilted a little to the side, and her smile grew. "Sounds like an interesting place to have lives. Never a dull moment I suppose?"

"Oh there are dull moments, but villains always have a way of attacking when you least want them to and when you least expect them, even now that I've retired. Well, when I had retired." Wanda smiled. It was hard not to think about why she was here.

"What about you, what did you do before you came here?"

Sounded the same as some of what happened in her world - minus the whole superhero/supervillian thing. But evil and mischief, regardless, still had ways of rearing up no matter where one lived.

"I was a Companion," Inara answered, her gaze never faltering from Wanda's.

"Oh, forgive me but- what is a Companion?" Maybe you'd better sit down, Wanda.

"Do you know what a Courtesan or perhaps what an Oiran were?" Inara asked, her head tilting a bit to the side as she watched Wanda.

"Courtesan," Wanda repeated. "I'm afraid I don't. English is not my first language."

"Hmmm," Inara murmured. "Well a Companion is just that, a companion for someone. We've been trained to listen, to entertain, to soothe, and even to offer advice. We're well versed in many subjects from our world, everything from art and dancing to politics and economics."
