Still Alone [Open]

If there was one thing Shadow hated to admit? It was being hurt. Not physically, mind you; emotionally. He was the bad ass, the guy who would never tell you how he was feeling even if you tortured him right there.

If he was willing, he'd tell you the reason why he was hurt - his rejection from Rogue Squadron just for being "too short". Sure, it was probably a childish thing to feel, but at the same time, he felt justified. At a time where you're one of the last people left in the multiverse, why hold back?

Every time he thought of the incident, it made his blood boil. Part of him, Stacy willing, wanted him to find one of those precious "X-Wings" and ram it into that stupid office.

"Maybe I do deserve to be an "Outsider"." Shadow muttered from a perch up on a rooftop. "Because I sure as hell isn't going to be any help elsewhere..."

Alessa gave him a smile. "If I were in danger of hurting myself, I wouldn't be able to fight that King at all, would I? No, I have some strength on reserve. I will save that for when we actually have a fight. On a subconscious level, he will have the advantage."

Here, she gave him a searching look.

"I don't come this far to lose, Shadow. In fact, if there is one thing I can say about demons, its that we're very goal oriented. If anything, I'm concerned for your safety."

And he could take that anyway he liked.

"An emotional attack is not the same as a physical one," Alessa said bluntly. "One can be quite assured that they can stand up to a physical attack, because they possess the strength to do so. But if their mind is in a state of flux, unable to decide whether they can cope, they can be intercepted by this foe."

She turned her back here. "I've said so before, and I meant it. If I were to discover the Nightmare King had caused you injury, I would make sure that he suffered greatly. It's the least I could do."

"I'm glad you get it," Alessa said. "Most of the masses here are perfectly comfortable depending on the magical squad, but I am not. A god is a god, and usually more trouble than they're worth."

Alessa said nothing for a moment, then gave him a look. "I didn't think anyone would care I got injured. I'm a demon, after all. Our pains don;t usually bother others."

"If they are used to someone else fixing their problems, they aren't good fighters, or even experienced," Alessa said. "Despite the annoyance of having to do more than my fair share, I would rather not have the depression of the dead lingering over the crew. It's noisy."

"Doubtful," Alessa said. "The only thing that would bother them is my looking like a child. A lot of them are heavily invested on appearances." She shrugged. "Such is the way of humans."

Alessa smiled. "That feeling is mutual. I liked kissing you, if you were curious."

Alessa steadied herself. She knew perfectly well what demons should and were advised to feel, and Alessa was always one not willing to make a situation awkward, or keep Shadow wondering.

"I have decided I like you Shadow," Alessa said, "Because I do. But I am also aware I am a demon, and therefore those feelings may not be something you feel inclined to act upon. But I am not one to play with words, or pretend I feel differently if it is painfully obvious."

A moment, she was only slightly around Shadow, but only several seconds later she was there now, and she pressed her lips to his. She was aware of how forward it was, but a part of her, one that viewed human nature, expected that rejection. If she were going to scare one other person, she preferred that feeling now, not later.

"Are you sure about that? You know my nature."

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
And that, THAT, was completely unexpected. Most who would have even seen such an action would have been flabbergasted at acting in that way upon a child!

But of course, Alessa was no child, and was technically not even Alessa, if you wanted to be frank. But that didn't matter. The kiss she wanted was returned to her, and it was foolish to think about anything but that moment.

When they parted, she gave him a steady look. "Are you sure what you're doing?"

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
And that answer earned a look that Shadow had probably not seen in Alessa before: a look of respect and attraction, and unlike a child's expression at all. "I don't like predictability, or people who want to blend on this ship. You were not accepted by those humans, and I'm glad. You're better suited for hand to hand fighting."

And she gave him a nod.

"I am sure," Alessa said. "For something like this, demons cannot afford to be wrong. It could lead to our deaths. You could say I like being risky."

Alessa returned the smirk. "Use your words when you need them. When I'm doing something like this, I am deadly serious. I don't do something unless it amuses me or is of importance anyway, and these days there are precious little things to laugh about."

And here, she gave him a wink. "You just make sure you do better than you did at the Poles. I think you stopped counting after awhile."

[identity profile] demon-alessa.livejournal.com 2010-01-14 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Poles were strange, robot creatures and strange abominations," Alessa answered. "This Nightmare King will be the worse of them all. If you do not bring all of your strength with you, you could be killed."

When he stopped to turn around, he would probably be a little shocked to find her several feet away. "That is something you needn't worry about, Shadow the Hedgehog. I WILL be looking for you."

And out for you, but that did not need to be said.
