Boredom Sets In

Mai has continued to find herself bored with everything. As usual. To be perfectly honest with herself, she'd rather be back home then here. There she didn't have to wear creepy, living clothing or be inside of a creepy, living ship. She also had food that tasted decent. Still, she has to eat, so she's in the mess hall, choking down some more of the slop and the tray that goes with it. She pauses and pokes at the unappetizing much with a depressed-sounding sigh, "Would it kill Stacy to have some variety?"

She forces down another mouthful and pulls a face. The simulations, at least, had been mildly entertaining. Right now there was nothing to do but wait and eat and wait some more. Maybe she ought to check out the media center and find out what that was all about. She picks at the food a bit more, then slumps in her seat, "I hate this place."

(( Open post! Feel free to bother her. ))

Connor is balancing a tray on one hand, using the other to poke the slop. Murphy's right behind him, as usual.

He looks up at Mai's question, clearly baffled. "Ye don' know what a fuckin' cheeseburger is?"

"Nor do I, neighbour," is the commentary from the man further on down the table. "Doesn't sound pleasant, either."

Billy takes a moment to recover from the sudden blast of culture shock. He knows about the concept of wildly different cultures in theory, of course, but it isn't always the easiest to react and adjust quickly when you'd never had to apply that knowledge.

He smiles apologetically at the two confused podmates, and somewhat wryly at the suggestion that a cheeseburger isn't food. His friends on Earth would have vehemently rejected that notion.

"I apologize---I would have explained the concept if I'd anticipated that you wouldn't be familiar with a cheeseburger. Cheeseburgers are a popular meal where I come from, but they're certainly not the most nutritious snack. Anyway, a cheeseburger is a slab of cooked meat topped by a melted slice of cheese, sandwiched between slices of bread. Its nutritional content mainly consists of protein, carbohydrates, and fat." Yay, junk food!

They aren't alone in the mess hall. Plenty of others are gathered there, chatting, cutting in and out of conversations with each other. There's a ruckus over in the corner with Pat and Toxin and Chris's food, as well as, curiously, a hawk perched on the edge of a table, eating.

Then all hell breaks loose.
