Meet and Greet Part Deux: The Socialing

The new people will find themselves ushered out of Obs Deck, so it can be shot down to the planet again, to pick the crew up. Eventually, the crew members on the mission are brought back up, and the doors open to let the two groups meet.

The newbies are likely not expecting their new crew-mates to come back bearing presents--which some of them are.

[ooc: This time anyone can post in. REMEMBER TO TAG OTHER PEOPLE, THO. This is set after the mission so mission peoples can meet the newbies. Latecomer newbies, if you want, you can just tag your guys into this one to make things easier.]

"Ah. I never lived in a big city, really. Stirling would be the closest, I think. Glasgow as well," he admits. "But that'd be in the lowlands, and I'm no Lowlander."

Jamie has heard of Belfast, but the other area mentioned he can't quite place. "Oriental Alliance?" He thinks for a moment, then shakes his head. "Sorry. I can't say I've heard of it."

It is true - having your universe destroyed isn't generally the most cheerful thing to imagine. "Aye. But we'll figure out a way to get them back. It's not so bad here, though. Ye have the Imaginariu...er, the Sensoriums. And ye don't have to sleep in the creepy pods, now that there's crew quarters." Almost as an afterthought, he adds, "And there's a real bar, too."

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-08 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, don't misunderstand me, I see little problem in my world being destroyed. Given much longer, someone would've blown the bloody place up without other worldly help. Just a matter of time, really. I just want my dog back." he paused, "and maybe my friend Ronin, too, but mostly the dog."

He sighed. It was really hard to find a good seeing eye dog that didn't shy away from powers.

"Oriental Alliance is what happened when Japan and China reached an agreement; 'our people can destroy your country' was the real idea. Japan got their powers first, so they took over the factory countries producing the goods they designed; There's really only a few independent countries left, these days. Most regions have formed alliances to try and keep the others from destroying them. Except the Irish Republic. Bloody weird, that."

He shook his head at the idea. Every other country had palled up with someone bigger, but the damn IRA refused to cooperate with anyone. As an Irishman, he found it ridiculous.

"Ye'll have to show me these quarters sometime. 'Fraid I haven't had much of a chance te get outside this room yet."

"I've seen some dogs around," Jamie states. Not to mention the werewolves, but he'll leave that part out for now. "It's possible that yours is already here. The pods don't always work the way they are supposed to and he might have already woken up."

There's the beginnings of a frown as he listens to Blin. "Och, war was bad enough back in my day. Throw in countries that can use those atomic weapons and..." He shakes his head a little, then frowns. "Or, wait, would those be nuclear?" He pronounces it a little oddly. That one's still a fairly new word for him. "We actually just came back from a world that had a nuclear war. A small one, mind ye, but the effects were verra bad."

He's still pleased about how things went once they were there, so his emotions aren't quite in sync with his words. "That's true, I suppose ye haven't had the chance. I can show ye a few places, sure, but there's still a lot I havena seen yet."

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-09 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
He had to smile at the term 'show you a few places'. It reminded him of how people would say things like 'well look at this guy' then freak out because they assumed it offended him. Good times.

"Funny thing about war, it never gets better, only worse. Yer lucky to have missed all the nasty bits."
bonnypiperlad: (facepalm)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-09 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie's actually realizing that may have been a poor choice of words, as he looks over at Blin and grimaces. Sometimes he's a little slow on the uptake.

"I'm sorry, I didna..." He breaks off rather suddenly, struck by something said earlier. "Wait. Ye said that ye saw me walk into the wall earlier, but ye...."

He trails off and scratches his head, looking rather baffled as he tries to figure this out.

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-11 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Aye, that's the rub, innit?" Blin slid down his glasses, revealing the two dead milky white orbs that should be eyeballs. "I've been blind since the day I was born. The makers gave me a gift a few years back, though; I can see energy and emotions. Yer all really just shapes of color."

He smiled, sliding his glasses back up.

"Don't worry about the comments, though. I don't. It's just somethin' ye get used to."
bonnypiperlad: (curious)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-11 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Shapes of color?" Jamie repeats the phrase, trying it on for size. "So are people all one color in general or does it change depending on what ye are feeling?"

He nods in regards to the comment, and adds, "If it's not something that bothers ye, then I won't worry about it." He figures anyway if he says something profoundly stupid it'll get pointed out one way or another.

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-12 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"People shift. Different colors for different emotions, but it seems that theres seven key colors, and everything else is just shades between 'em. 'Fer instance, right now, you're filled with curiosity, which is mostly based in hope. Don't know why, nor do I really care, but that's the way it works. I also see energy sources. Usually. This ship seems to have none; no heat, no power, no light... Never seen the like."
bonnypiperlad: (So...)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-13 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Jamie 'ahs' softly at the explanation. "I've never heard of anything like that before. It's verra neat." He likes hearing about how different powers function, finding the subject quite interesting.

He seems a bit puzzled at the fact that Stacy doesn't seem to register for Blin. "Really? Stacy's a living ship - would you not pick up on the heat, if nothing else? It's no like ye canna feel the humidity on her."

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-14 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly why I find it so weird. Something about this place cocks up my powers, and frankly, that flies right in the face of the whole 'super power to make up for deformity' idea. I may as well be a mainlander for all the use my powers are now."

Not that he'd tested what his powers could really do here, but that wasn't something he wanted to push just yet. The scars on his hands itched just thinking about it.

"but what about you? You must have some deal that brought you aboard."
bonnypiperlad: (talking)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-14 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Huh. Maybe ye should talk to someone from the Magical department? They might be able to help ye figure out why things aren't working properly." If nothing else, they would know much more than Jamie would about that sort of thing.

"I don't have any super-powers, if that's what ye mean. Unless ye count the occasional luck of knowing something is going to attack ye and being able to get out of its way? But it's no like I can fly or make snow materialize out of thin air." That would be much more impressive, if you ask him.

There's a slight shrug. "I can play the bagpipes, I can use a sword, and I'm verra good at creeping down corridors. I still think it may be because I met someone once and got caught up in these Divine Threads the Daligig mentioned."

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, oldest trick of storytelling; when ye have a fantastic character, ye create a protagonist people can recognize with and play his reactions. Makes ye the real main character." Blin nodded to himself more than anyone else, really. He was agreeing with his own idea, after all.

"If ye ask me, those are truly the best stories. It's never the ones about the super-powered traveler, it's the ones about the guy who goes with 'im. I'll definitely have to look up this magical team later, as well. They may even be able to help."

Then something clicked in his head. "Bagpipes, eh? We just need a drummer, fiddler, and someone else who can play a decent guitar and we'll have ourselves a right proper band."
bonnypiperlad: (smile)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-16 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, aye, that." Jamie, unfortunately, got a bit confused by 'protagonist'. At least most of the rest of that made some sort of sense. "If ye say so."

He brightens, though, at the mention of music. "Someone else? Do ye play then? There's a few of us that have a wee bit of talent in that field that I've come across. And at least two guitar players I can think of off the top of my head."

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-16 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aye, I've always made my money one of two ways; Busking with my guitar, or the odd bit o' street magic. There arn't too many job opportunities for a blind avatar in Ireland." Well, there was that one, but after how it ended, it wasn't something Blin wanted to think about. Being used by an international governing agency had that kind of affect on someone.
bonnypiperlad: (whatsthat?)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-17 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
"I come from a long line of pipers," Jamie admits. "Ye could say that was my job, before..." He trails off. "Well, before Culloden."

He's about to say more, but one word Blin used catches his attention. "I'm sorry, did ye say Avatar?" It can't be Katara's Aang - not with Blin being from Ireland. But how many people actually use that word?

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-17 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aye, avatars. People with powers. My energy thing makes me one, though why I was chosen, I dinnae know. Back home, our powers aren't natural; they aren't genetic, either. My genes are exactly the same as any other human. But, God chose to grant superhuman powers to a whole bunch o' people to compensate for their flaws. Me, I'm blind, so my powers give me a form of vision and extend on that. I know one guy, he couldn't walk, got the ability to fly. Powers always go above and beyond simply fixing whatever issue they were made for, though... Some people say we got the powers to take place in a celestial war, me, personally? I think it's just Gods way of sayin' 'my bad'."

Blin was never big on religion, but certain things about the powers were common knowledge back home; they weren't natural, science couldn't figure out how they worked or even if people had them, so everyone knew it was divine. It was fact.
bonnypiperlad: (hmm)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-18 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, so there's more than one of ye. I heard the term before, but it was being used to refer to just one person." It makes sense that they'd both be referring to someone with powers, however.

Jamie hms thoughtfully. "Well, from what ye are saying, it sounds like them being from God would make the most sense. But it's no like there's anything close to what ye have where I come from, so I couldna say. As for a celestial war...I don't know. I mean, ye have the situation with the Ohm here. For all I know they could be related."

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-19 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"They could indeed." blin shrugged. "Not that I can see how it really matters, thought. Related or not, this is the fight we're in now, so this is the one to worry about. The past is gone and the future requires tendin' to."

He got up off the meatcouch and held his hand out to Jamie. "Pleasure meetin' ye. Yer a good bloke, for a Scot." He said with a smile.
bonnypiperlad: (smile)

[personal profile] bonnypiperlad 2010-01-19 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Likewise." Jamie smiles, and rises from the meatcouch as well before shaking the offered hand.

"Let me know if ye still want the tour sometime, aye?"

[identity profile] billy-blin.livejournal.com 2010-01-21 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Aye, I will at that." He smiled again as he walked away.
