Meet and Greet Part Deux: The Socialing

The new people will find themselves ushered out of Obs Deck, so it can be shot down to the planet again, to pick the crew up. Eventually, the crew members on the mission are brought back up, and the doors open to let the two groups meet.

The newbies are likely not expecting their new crew-mates to come back bearing presents--which some of them are.

[ooc: This time anyone can post in. REMEMBER TO TAG OTHER PEOPLE, THO. This is set after the mission so mission peoples can meet the newbies. Latecomer newbies, if you want, you can just tag your guys into this one to make things easier.]

The Spartan wouldn't have blamed her, really. With all the time she'd spent in cryo-stasis, it was easy to mistake her for years younger than she was.

It was a small box. When Katara opened it, she would find lying in a black velvet cusioned case a shining silver armlet (http://arcanedesigns.ca/images/arcane%20010.jpg). "It's not much, but it made me think of you, so I had to get it." She smiled gently. "Well I'm always up for either. No worries on that front."

At the question, she tilted her head thoughtfully for a moment. "Lafiel? She's...complicated." That got a quiet laugh. "She's nice in her own way I suppose. A little ornery. And I'm sure she's vicious if crossed. But she's not so bad once you get past the mildly prickly exterior."

Katara would totally be glad to know that, as well as what cryo-stasis meant.

When she opened her present, her hand went immediately to ger mouth. "Oh Kelly, its beautiful! How did- where did-wow!" She was fairly speechless, and couldn't help but give the taller woman another hug. "Thank you so much! And I will take you up on both of those soon, trust me."

This would be a perfect symbol of her new training, and the closest she could get to not actually getting a tattoo (she wasn't even going to TELL Sokka she was thinking about that, he'd flip).

"I'm just asking because of what happened with Meluly the other day," Katara explained. "I know that Meluly cares a lot about Lafiel, and I just want to make sure that Lafiel's on the up and up. Meluly is a friend of mine, and I'd like to make sure that Lafiel isn't just playing with her."

Things Kelly would have been happy to explain of course.

Her smile simply widened at the girl's reaction. It was nice to be able to make someone happy. It wasn't a feeling she'd ever really gotten used to. But it was one she was coming to realize the value of. She returned the hug carefully with her free arm. It was a little awkward in her armor, but she managed. "You're welcome. Anytime you like, I'm pretty sure I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."

She nodded at Katara's explanation. "You don't have to worry. Lafiel cares about Meluly just as much. I'm sure they'll be fine. And besides, if they aren't, I'm sure I could give Lafiel a piece of my mind."

This had to be one of the best things to happen from taht taking of the Bridge mission. Kelly had been a good fighter then, and they'd watched over each other. But now that they were friends, it made Katara realize how helpful it would be for both of them: training and friendships went hand in hand, after all. "I'll have to start soon, I guess. Gotta get back to a sleeping schedule again."

Katara grinned. "Good, I'm really glad that you told me that. Meluly is strong, but I can tell a part of her is fragile, and I just want to make sure Lafiel is taking care of her. I'd like them both to be happy."

"That shouldn't be too hard. Activity on the ship seems to run in cycles anyway." She smiled. It was good to have friends. She didn't mind so much not having them for herself, but to be a friend to others was something she was starting to see the value in. She'd seen the girl fight and she was good. Her abilities were useful, versatile. And with proper help? She could grow into a far more powerful fighter in her own right. Kelly was glad to help in any way. And of course, any sparring she could get in was welcome too.

"I'm sure they will be. It doubt it's something you need to worry about with those two."

"I've noticed," Katara said dryly, grinning. "I'm glad that it leaves me with all this time for training, actually. But that doesn't leave me time to do all my school studying." Not that she was going to feel too terrible about it. Studying was studying, whether it was academic or discipline and precision.

"Well, I'm, really worried more about Meluly," Katara admitted. "She has a tendency to show her feelings for someone pretty hardcore, so if there's a way to make sure she's with the person that makes her happy, I'll do what I can."

She smiled in turn, lifting one armored shoulder in a shrug. The movement was always awkward to perform in armor, but it got the message across. "I'm sure we can whip you into shape."

Kelly nodded slowly at that. She didn't know Meluly all to well, but she liked the woman well enough. "I find it's usually more prudent to let people work out their own feelings and relationships. But I do agree that if there's an opportunity or a need for out assistance, we should be there."

"I'm sure I'm going to be whipping myself into shape," Katara said. "There's so much I have to learn, and I want to be ready. We only have a short amount of time before we have to deal with our real mission anyway. That's the one I'm worried about."

Katara giggled. "No, you're right. I have this really horrible habit of trying to make matchmaker with my friends. I thought I'd be able to help here, but it looks like they might have some things they have to deal with without anyone's help."
