Extreme Like Soup Exploding! [LAB SAFETY DAY]

This was it, the day that Instructors Callahan and Cranston had been anticipating (and perhaps, on Mr. Cranston's part, dreading). This afternoon, in a Sensorium-created laboratory, their students would be learning laboratory safety protocol and putting it into practice.

As students enter and receive greetings from Billy, they'll notice the main features of the laboratory if they choose to look around. A desk sits in the front of the room with boxes of supplies piled on it. In the middle sits a mysterious boiling pot. One one side of the room sits an eye wash station that shouldn't be needed today. Long work tables stretch from the front of the room to the rear, surrounded by simple stools, and a white cabinet sits to the side of the room, opened to reveal hair ties, gloves, and goggles.

Behind the desk sits a chalkboard, where Billy has written a list of paired names. Feel free to react in dismay or horror at your lab partners, students, but your instructors won't be budging. They have their reasons. When everyone arrives and is seated, they'll begin.

After processing all this, there might be another question on their minds---where's Wyn disappeared to? Students unfortunate enough to fail to arrive on time will soon find out...

((And the nightmare begins! Start tagging in the first few subthreads, team. If you're not already on the lab partner list but would still like to participate, feel free to contact Kuroi or Zoki on AIM or comment to this post, and we'll set you up. Have fun!))

Jamie shrugs in reply. It's all good, for now. Later, though, there may be a word or three with Wyn, depending on how the rest of the class goes.

"Thanks, Billy." He turns to head Roxie's way, then pauses for a moment. "Remind me, I wanted to talk to ye about something after class, if you have a few minutes." He doesn't elaborate on what, though, instead crossing over to go speak to his lab partner.

"Hello," Roxie says quietly, looking up at him. She doesn't seem entirely enthusiastic about all this, to put it lightly, but at least she's not actively getting in the way of anything.

"Hello, Roxie." Jamie can't blame her for being unenthusiastic about this, given he's not exactly going 'Yay Science!' himself at the moment.

"So did Wyn talk ye into doing this too, or was it someone else?"

"Sherry," Roxie says, and somehow manages to pronounce it in a way that implies slow torture and other painful things. "She wouldn't stop bothering me about it." But it's not like Sherry could really make her come, not if Roxie seriously resisted... which might make one wonder just how serious she is about it.

Jamie doesn't actually believe there would be slow torture and other painful things, not in this case. Holding it over Sherry's head later, however? Possibly. He looks over at Sherry, and notices then that Vega's with her. He looks rather bemused. "Is Yuri coming, too?"

He's going to assume she'll show up at some point, though, as his experience with the kids leads him to believe if one is there, all will be there. He makes a small dismissive motion with his hand. Roxie doesn't have to bother answering.

"Anyway, I'm sorry ye got stuck with me."

"I'm not sure," Roxie says, answering anyway. "I would not be surprised." She too has observed the way her little group seems to end up clumping together, even if her age puts her at a little more of an outlier.

"...there would be worse people to work with," she adds.

Jamie gives her a rather skeptical look. "If ye say so, but most of my experience with science experiments has been, 'Jamie, hold this' and 'Jamie, pass me that'. Och, and what else...oh, right. 'No, Jamie!'"

He actually does a decent impression of the other person's voice, switching fairly easily from his normal voice to that of an older, somewhat distracted-sounding man with an English accent - although, for the last phrase, the other person sounds outright alarmed.

"Figured it's only fair to warn ye," he adds, after a moment.

The way he does the imitation makes a little bit of a smile tweak onto Roxie's face. He's enough good at it that she starts to wonder who else he'd be able to copy the mannerisms of.

"... as I said, there would be worse people to work with," she repeats.

He did spend a few years in close proximity to the person in question, so it's hard to say what would happen if he tries to imitate someone else. He's never tried.

Jamie still isn't sure who would be worse than him for this, but again just decides to go with it. If Roxie's not bothered, he won't be either.

"So do ye want to go find somewhere to sit?"

"Aye," Roxie says, and if choice of the word is comment on Jamie's accent, her neutral tone doesn't give it away. She looks from Jamie to around the workspace, and finally starts moving towards an unclaimed table.
