Diana stared at the slop. She'd eaten this since she'd arrived but damn it was unappealing. She frowned, propping her chin on her hand as she leaned against the cafeteria table, alone, staring at the slop. Human food would be good. So would company.

[ uh, new thread is a new encounter? that's how i roll :D ]

"I've been here for a few months and I still don't think I'm totally used to it yet - but it gets a lot easier, don't worry."

Nanoha did not look like she envied you that meal, Diana.

"That's somewhat comforting," she stated calmly. Personally, Diana hoped to not be here too long, as she wanted to restore the universes and go home (even if home was pretty much a disaster on a normal basis). Yet while she was here, she wanted to make the best of it. No need to mope about, feeling sorry for herself.

It's her pile. She'll eat it soon enough.

Yeah, that made two of you. "So... what do you do back home, Diana?" Nanoha leaned forward, resting her chin in her hand.

Well that was a complicated question, moreso than it probably should have been. Diana Prince didn't really exist here. Only Diana of Themyscira.

"I am a member of the Justice League of America. We help inspire hope and keep peace in America and throughout the world." This was an old role, but it still was a part of her for so long. And with the way many of the former Leaguers had spoken back home, it would be a part of her life again. "Also an Ambassador of the Amazons."

She prodded her food again. It wasn't that she was bragging but instead was speaking sincerely. "How about you, Nanoha?"

Nanoha nodded, genuinely impressed. "That's a lot of responsibility to have! I'd imagine it can get pretty stressful once in a while - but it'd also be pretty rewarding."

She tilted her head to the side. "I'm a combat instructor for new recruits in the Time-Space Administration Bureau's aerial forces - we're kind of like an interdimensional police force, in a way, searching for lost artifacts and people who intend to use them to damage the fabric of space-time."

Diana had never really thought of it as stressful once. At first it was purely duty. Now it was out of wanting to help people. "I actually enjoy it quite a bit."

An interedimensional police force? She sounded like a Lantern but definitely wasn't one. No ring. "Sounds like you keep yourself quite busy with helping people." Diana offered a smile. Nanoha seemed like a very noble person.

"I enjoy it quite a bit, too," Nanoha chuckled. "It's really rewarding, seeing my students go from rookies to people who work as a team. Even if I'm not doing so much field work anymore, it still kinda lets me feel like I'm helping, you know?"

"I do," Diana replied with a smile. "I feel the same way. I enjoy helping people." That's what she wanted to do. It was out of choice not out of duty anymore.

"It looks like we have that in common, at least. Maybe that's why we're here." She paused, her face taking on a more thoughtful expression. "Though I can't say everyone here shares that viewpoint, to be honest."

"So I've heard," Diana remarked. "Yet those of us who do share that common ideal can work together and possibly inspire others to also work together and find a way home."

Nanoha looked over at Diana, her expression becoming slightly more neutral. "And if there is no way to return home? Do you think it'd be still worth the effort of there were no way to restore what was destroyed?"

It was a question she found herself asking a lot lately. She knew her answer, of course, but... the others should be sure, too.

"I do think it would still be worth the effort," Diana replied, "to prevent more universes from being lost." She'd rather the least number of people suffer from this. There was no need to create more losses.

"Looks like we agree there, too." Nanoha smiled quietly - a bit wistfully. "If we can stop the Ohm before more people have to go through the same thing, we should. Then maybe we can start over again... even if it isn't our homes."

Diana offered a friendly smile in return. "No one else needs to suffer," Diana agreed. "And starting a new life in a new world is a very good idea." No reason they needed to float about homeless.

"It'd be best if we were able to go home, but... as long as some of the people we care about are here, it shouldn't be too hard, right?"

"It certainly makes a new life better," Diana nodded. Of course, she would rather home come back, but her friends here would make her life happier.

"And by that time, I'm sure we'll have more people we care about here on the ship. It's impossible to go through something like this without ending up close to the people who were at your side."

"I hope so," Diana agreed. "That would be very nice." She'd also know they were safe in that case.

"I know so," Nanoha chuckled. "I've made a ton of new friends already. We're all in this together, right?"

Diana smiled. "Yes, definitely." It was definitely good to have someone so honorable with her to fight against these Ohm and possibly get home.
