God knows where she'd gotten the blades.
They hovered in the air, little menacing antigravity buzzsaw shuriken. Violence lay coiled within them, not directed outward but in, at Sheeana who stood poised with her arms spread. This was the attitude with which she called the great worm. Her toes curled in, feeling the strange, unfamiliar grass (coarse, yes, like the rare poverty grasses that sometimes grew on the leeward side of the dunes but still far too thick for her liking and multicolored). She opened her awareness, allowing herself to become part of the place and her of it.
Seven, a warm up. Their timer finished counting down, they converged in on her
There was a series of contortions that blurred in and out of visibility. She leapt. She hugged the ground. At one point she found herself poised on one hand, feet thrown up into the air like a Minoan athlete over the bull.
For practicing the Weirding Way, no artificial lightshow would do, no matter how real feeling.

"I hope you didn't mind the audience."

"I wouldn't doubt it. The entire time I was watching, I kept thinking: I dated an Olympic gymnast once, she probably couldn't pull off half of those moves."
He stepped further into the room.
"I didn't know being a Reverend Mother involved knife fights, though."

"I'd like to hear more about it."
no subject
"We Bene Gesserit learn to exercise conscious control of all the body's internal processes, from the muscular level down to the chemical reactions of our cells. The Weirding Way was developed to take advantage of this. With it, the full efficiency of the body is utilized."
no subject
"Is that unique to the Bene Gesserit, or can anyone potentially learn, but choose not to dedicate themselves?"
no subject
She evaluated his next statement carefully. Genuine curiosity there, but hints of danger too...Not the unspecified sense of menace one might get from a monster like the Baron Harkonnen but her Atreides instincts told her to proceed with caution. "Attempting to become a Reverend Mother is almost always fatal for men, but Prana Bindu...our word for that internal control...is learnable by anyone who chooses to put in the effort."
no subject
"In addition to perfect motor control, does it help to expand the consciousness?" Unlocking the secrets of the body piqued Lex's interest, but it was the mind that had always fascinated him more. After all, what is strength without the knowledge to apply it with precision?
no subject
"You are partially correct. Bene Gesserit teachings are also concerned with expanding the student's consciousness. But Prana Bindu also allows us to use Spice more efficiently, which expands consciousness chemically."
no subject
"Is the effect of Spice permanent? Or would one need a constant supply?"
While Lex had a fondness for his liquor, he never allowed himself to become dependent upon any substance. He valued learning, not just for the destination but also for the journey. Shortcuts were cheating himself out of something important.
The secrets of the universe had to be earned, after all.
But... it was still tempting.

"But a small does or two could have a lifelong effect?" He did not like have the idea of being an addict to anything. Lex was no slave to any chemicals. Especially one that may not be in large supply on the ship. "How much Spice is here?"
no subject
"Doses spaced at least a month apart will not result in addiction." And then it was time to withdraw the stick. "Ah, you will forgive me if I do not reveal every detail of a substance on which my life depends to anyone."
no subject
He was of two minds about that detail. It was a way to control her, if this girl became too clever for her own good. And it was a warning for himself, of how dangerous an addiction to Spice could become.
"I see." He slowly circled her again, his mind looking at the situation from more angles than one would think existed.
"What would you recommend?"
no subject
If Luthaur meant this circling to be intimidating, to invoke the aspect of a hawk bearing down on a mouse, it hadn't worked. She didn't think that was like him though...If only that he also knew she was immune to such things. Perhaps it was more
"Knowing that, it all depends on what your goals are. What do you wish to do with it? To find out?"
no subject
"Everything," he answered without hesitation. "I want to find out everything." All the secrets of the universe, and the power they contain.

Perhaps. But Lex was always one who not only dared to dream big, but to go for it himself.
"Do enjoy the Hanukkah celebration," he told her. "You'll be hearing from soon."
