Mad Scientist In The Making

Photobucket

Nate had gotten his armor back from Stacy. The initial elation had slowly given way to a very businesslike examination of the suit's use however, following a troubleshooting session in the City. It seemed that Stacy had locked down the suit's time travel capabilities. So that meant he wouldn't be going anywhere, and he wouldn't be pulling weapons out of the time stream either. A few of the deadlier weapons in the suit itself had been disabled. But he'd be able to get those back up and running.

The thing that he had most wanted to know however, was whether the Vision programming was present. Running through his checklists and looking through the programming ands source codes of the armor's minimal AI system, he was soon satisfied that his suit wouldn't be walking around on it's own anytime soon. Good. One less headache for him. Something he was thankful for, what with the way his head had been pounding recently. That being said he didn't want to be walking around in that suit at the moment. At least, not while it was looking like that.

So it was that he ended up in the Special Weapons area, various tools littering the table next to the larger one that he'd laid the suit out on. First things first, he'd need to get rid of that helmet. He didn't want his face hidden, not anymore at least. So he worked for an hour or so at pulling the components from the helmet and incorporating them into the suit. Of course, for the HUD he'd need to find an alternate method. Perhaps he could rig up a retinal projector keyed to his DNA? Well, time enough for that later.

The sound of clinking and fiddling could be heard for a long time. His eyes began to grow tired as he kept working. How many hours had it been? Didn't matter, he had his suit. He needed to finish. Now that fusion cell connected to that power cable. And that ion regulator into that outlet. Yes it was going fine. Picking up another fusion cell, he grabbed his screwdriver and began to unscrew the cap. Hopefully the gel hadn't congealed after disuse, or else it might--

BOOM

The cell exploded in a great spray of coolant gel and metal parts. One sliver of metal ran a cut along his cheek, and he was glad he'd had the foresight to put goggles on, as others pinged off the protective eyewear. Setting down his screwdriver, he pulled the goggles off, a bemused expression crossing his face as he lifted a hand to wipe the gel off it. His hair stuck out at odd angles from the release of static the exploding fusion cell had caused, and he sighed, rubbing at his eyes.

Maybe that was enough for one night.

Ever met any of the Bene Gesserits? More powerful with none of their limitations. Just sayin'.

"Well as soon as I write up, I'll be sure you get a copy," she said, lifting her chin a fraction of an inch and giving him a look of royalty, and she has the look down, because well... She is royalty.

Nope she hasn't, but she wouldn't be afraid of her regardless.

She allowed her royal expression to drop and ended up flashing him a bright smile. "I think I might end up liking you... Despite the fact that I do not even know your name."

She extended her hand and grasped his within her own. "It's an honor to meet you Nate, I'm Ghanima Atreides. But I suppose you can call me Ghani." She hasn't given that honor to many of the crew - feel special Nate.

"Actually I don't. I normally stay within the city." If she only knew what Nate had just said sounded just like a cheesy pick up line. If only. "Is this where you can normally be found?"

She's not offended, don't worry.

"No, I don't. The whole... Living thinking-machine aspect of the ship sort of... Puts me on edge. I find it easier to sleep within the city." She shrugs, it's not really a secret she's not Stacy's number one fan.

"Now why would you want to make a nuisance of yourself?" she asked, her eyebrow arching in question.

It's not that she's unuse to technology, it's the whole thing with computers and robots nearly wiping out humanity before - and then add in the whole kidnapped from her world thing? Yeah she's not a fan of Stacy or the ship.

She doesn't say anything though, just decides to let that conversation fade away and be forgotten.

"So what exactly do you do with your time? Just.. make a nuisance of yourself?" She's laughing a little, she can't help it.

She tilts her head a little to the side. "What sort of books do you read? And working out?" She's obviously interested by what he said. Though she's curious how he'd fare through a workout with Gurney.

"Quantum mechanics? Sounds intriguing." Ghani asked, her eyebrow perking up in interest.

"And I do know what physical conditioning is." She said, flashing him an amused look. "We do still keep ourselves fit in my time."

Her eyes sparkle mischievously. "Yes, I'm quite aware of what you speak of. And in my time it is no theory, as we use a scientific phenomenon called the Holtzman effect to fold space at the quantum level. It allows our Spacing Guild's heighliner ships to instantaneously travel far distances across space." She can probably talk more once she gets going.

"You don't think taking care of your body is important?" Her eyebrow arches playfully. "You'd be surprised with some of the exercises we put ourselves through in my time then. You'd probably only make it a minute into it."
