Mad Scientist In The Making

Nate had gotten his armor back from Stacy. The initial elation had slowly given way to a very businesslike examination of the suit's use however, following a troubleshooting session in the City. It seemed that Stacy had locked down the suit's time travel capabilities. So that meant he wouldn't be going anywhere, and he wouldn't be pulling weapons out of the time stream either. A few of the deadlier weapons in the suit itself had been disabled. But he'd be able to get those back up and running.
The thing that he had most wanted to know however, was whether the Vision programming was present. Running through his checklists and looking through the programming ands source codes of the armor's minimal AI system, he was soon satisfied that his suit wouldn't be walking around on it's own anytime soon. Good. One less headache for him. Something he was thankful for, what with the way his head had been pounding recently. That being said he didn't want to be walking around in that suit at the moment. At least, not while it was looking like that.
So it was that he ended up in the Special Weapons area, various tools littering the table next to the larger one that he'd laid the suit out on. First things first, he'd need to get rid of that helmet. He didn't want his face hidden, not anymore at least. So he worked for an hour or so at pulling the components from the helmet and incorporating them into the suit. Of course, for the HUD he'd need to find an alternate method. Perhaps he could rig up a retinal projector keyed to his DNA? Well, time enough for that later.
The sound of clinking and fiddling could be heard for a long time. His eyes began to grow tired as he kept working. How many hours had it been? Didn't matter, he had his suit. He needed to finish. Now that fusion cell connected to that power cable. And that ion regulator into that outlet. Yes it was going fine. Picking up another fusion cell, he grabbed his screwdriver and began to unscrew the cap. Hopefully the gel hadn't congealed after disuse, or else it might--
BOOM
The cell exploded in a great spray of coolant gel and metal parts. One sliver of metal ran a cut along his cheek, and he was glad he'd had the foresight to put goggles on, as others pinged off the protective eyewear. Setting down his screwdriver, he pulled the goggles off, a bemused expression crossing his face as he lifted a hand to wipe the gel off it. His hair stuck out at odd angles from the release of static the exploding fusion cell had caused, and he sighed, rubbing at his eyes.
Maybe that was enough for one night.

As far as he knew.
"My friend removed the spell that was suppressing them. And we used the Sensoriums to reboot them, so to speak."
no subject
"Magic was holding them back?" Curiouser and curiouser, this kid. "So how do you feel now?"
no subject
"Apparently. Or I could have repressed them myself and Billy's spell did nothing. And the Sensoriums just rebooted them." Well it wasn't really him, it was his friends. Besides, he didn't know how magic worked. "I've got migraines pretty much 24/7. But other than that? Right as rain. Ready to kick ass and take names. So to speak."
no subject
"You might want to have someone take a look at those migraines." That didn't sound healthy.
Lex picked up a small piece of the arm, looking it over. "But now that you have your suit back, and your memories, you probably have a better idea why you were chosen."
no subject
"I know a doctor." He smiled a little at the memory of Jean Grey. "I'll probably ask her to check it out for me."
He didn't mind the touching. As a general rule, he didn't like people touching what he was working on. But that piece was mostly finished, and it was Lex. So he didn't mind too much. "I can contribute tech support and insight. And in my armor I'll be able to effectively combat support my team. That, and my teammates are mostly here. We'll be able to work as a close unit. But I can't say what Stacy has in mind."
no subject
"It would be wise."
Most scientists Lex employed hated it when he touched their stuff. But he did it anyway to remind them that he was the one in charge. There wasn't that same psychological edge over Nate, though. That was more an unintentional disregard for personal space. Sometimes Lex's curiosity got the better of his manners.
"And your..." ahem "...'girlfriend'?"
no subject
"Hey, it's not like I enjoy them or anything." He smirked.
Nate didn't mind so much. Now if the billionaire started yanking part out, then he might have had a problem. But as it was, just looking and touching wasn't a big deal as long he was careful. And Lex didn't seem the type to handle such equipment carelessly.
"Cassie?" He shrugged. That was still complicated. "She's with Jonas. If she cares about him, I'm not going to get in the way of that. It's not like I have any right to."
no subject
Lex was never one to be careless with something that's potentially very valuable. He placed the piece he was looking at back down where he had picked it up, though he'd have to take a much closer look at this technology later.
"I'm not sure you'd want to get in the middle of that. No offense, but any girl that would date a robot has to have some issues."
no subject
Nate would have thought so. But then, he'd noticed that Lex was careful about everything. It was a curious trait, but something quite admirable. He was learning. And it felt good to learn again. It was like a game, with Lex as the opponent, but in this game, he learned how to play better simply by watching his opponent's moves.
Waving a hand dismissively, he tapped his goggles once, before pulling them down over his eyes again and bending closer to his work. "We've all got issues, man. That's probably why we're here."
no subject
Lex was meticulous in how he moved. He was always three steps ahead of everyone, at least, if not more. And carelessness can cost him both his money and his life.
"True, though I'd like to think we were gathered for more than just the number of neurosis we possess."
no subject
Nate hadn't been playing the game long enough to be able to see that far, but he was a quick study. From the way his new friend carried himself, he was learning more and more about caution and how to apply it.
He chuckled. "I wouldn't be surprised if Stacy was really just some crazy nuthouse we were all admitted to because of our delusions though. Weirder things have happened. Pass me sonic wrench, would you?" He asked, pointing at the tool in question without looking up.
