Unleash the Podlings!

||Pod Release Protocols Initiating,|| Stacy announced to the denizens of the upper levels. Down the the Pod Caverns, familiar sounds made themselves known:

Pop. Pop pop pop. Poppuhpoppoppop. KASCHUNKhiiiiiiiissssss.

Mist sprayed from the cracks in the pods before the new crew members were summarily ejected from warm, comfortable stasis to their new chilly, damp reality. They'd either meet each other in the Caverns or in the upper levels, where the previously popped crew would also be waiting for them, if Stacy had anything to say about it.

This time, there were two pods spitting mechanical beings out of a more oily mixture, and one podling who was significantly smaller than most of the others.

Pop. Poppop. KASCHUNKhiiiiiissss.

The solid contact of the woman’s hand stilled her for a moment. It tingled for a brief second, as if human affection wasn’t the only contact being made. Soon enough however, it faded and in its place the young girl felt an eerie warmth, her own inner force now merely observing the situation, with cautious optimism.

Was this Eve like the people from Dryfeild? Maybe she, like the others who had been taken in and given the opportunity to ‘evolve’ only had a very fundamental understanding.

With a tenderly hopeful look in her eyes she raised her own palm to rest on the woman’s hand, clasping her own small fingers around hers apprehensively.

“Eve..?” Her younger name sake asked apprehensively. “Why do we have the same name?”

Eve's eyelids fluttered and fell shut for a few moments as she took in the faint warmth...a small shudder came and went, quickly succeeded by a wide smile; a rather satisfied expression. For a few scant moments, the air around her seemed to thrum to life...coils of heat reaching out into the empty space around her, almost around the younger female but not in a threatening manner...instead, it was quite the opposite: more protective and motherly than anything else.

As quick as it started though, it was gone.

She cocked her head to one side, withdrawing her hand from the girl's cheek, to twine her fingers together with the little Eve's own...clicking her tongue softly.

"Perhaps it is because we are both very special, hmm?"

In the back of her mind Eve’s instincts, though apparently nothing compared to what they could be, sensed an uneasiness coming from within. Special? She had been categorized like that before by someone she didn’t care to think about. Simple deduction however was seized by a well meaning inner influence, altering certain thoughts to reflect a kinder outcome. An outcome where whomever this Eve was, she was essentially just like herself.

Behind the appearance of a confused little girl, Eve’s eyes lit up. She was still sensitive about the events that led up to her current predicament, but there was something slowly sinking in, something that made her smile. And with that thin but appreciative smile the girl used her free hand to best draw the woman’s arm into a warm heartfelt embrace.

She chuckled softly...a lilting, almost musical noise that rumbled from deep within her throat. Her free arm raised slowly to pull the girl into a gentle hug. After a few moments she let her go, petting at her hair affectionately.

"Yes," The word was spoken for no particular reason -- likely just reinforcing the dynamic that was going on between them at a cellular level.

She smiled down at little Eve and cooed.

"...Perhaps..." She began quietly, taking a slow glance around them -- at the various pods still occupied, the fleshy ground and hall that was presumably the cavern's exit.

"We should explore a bit. I still have no idea what is going on, and...knowledge is power, isn't it darling?"

Giving the older woman a half-smile, the younger Eve nodded, if only to please the woman who kept her company, who had the same gift, the same curse as her self. In her own mind, she didn't grasp how knowledge could become power, or if it even applied here.

Tightening the grasp of the older Eve’s hand the girl tucked a lock of blonde hair behind her ear, holding the other hand out, palm up, to examine the oily substance now coating her fingers, her palm and due to her hug, the length of her arm. It wasn’t unpleasant, but it reminded her of something, of her self not so long ago.

Suddenly pointing resolvedly toward where the hallway from which she had ventured, the youth spoke up, a hint of hesitancy detectable in her first few words. “That way is the clothes room.”

And on that note, she swiveled 45 degrees to the left, arm and index finger still stretched out resolutely.

“And that way is to…” She paused furrowing her brow. “That’s ‘The crew’”

Craning her head to one side, she watched and listened to little Eve's directions. Her lips pursed together, forming a thin, contemplative line. She clicked her tongue once more and let out a soft 'hmm'. She kept her hand intertwined with the girl's own, squeezing it gently. The action was maternal as well as possessive, in a way.

"It might be best to go find the crew, then. Perhaps we can get better answers from them than the voice,..." Obviously she was referring to Stacy, but was refusing to use the name. She was still perturbed at the flood of human emotions the utterance had caused.

Squeezing her hand once more, she teetered off towards the hallway that supposedly lead to 'the crew'. Gait unsteady yet confident. She might've not been used to such a humanoid form...but she still had poise.

For a moment she almost obeyed. Almost. After taking a few hesitant steps forward, her own awkward steps a stark contrast to the almost regal grace of the elder Eve’s, the youngster squeezed the hand in hers and stopped. Standing her ground in dogged albeit childish determination, her eyes tried to plead with the older woman’s to another way, to avoid what ever these crew were.

“But what if…”

Now that she had the floor, the words tried to choke her. The burden of wanting to please and stay out of danger conflicting already convoluted emotions. She felt the knot of tension form instinctively in her stomach, as she tried to broach the topic logically, or at least through her own logic.

“What if they’re dangerous?”

Eve continued on for a few more steps, stopping only when she couldn't go any further since little Eve still held her hand. She blinked once, then twice, and peeked over her shoulder at the youth. The corners of her mouth curled upwards, an amused expression sprawled across her pale features. She squeezed her hand gently and backtracked so she was standing next to the girl again.

Leaning downwards, she raised her hand and cusped little Eve's chin affectionately.

"If they are dangerous, I will take care of them. Don't you worry your lovely little head over it," She murmured with a smile, touching her cheek gently before rustling her hair. The thrum of power that surrounded her underscored the fact that she probably could handle whatever dangers might lurk down the hall.

‘She would?’ The younger Eve asked herself, eyes darting back and forth from wondrous green eyes and mysterious fleshy skin of the other pathway glinting with a vibrant shine. A sense of dread played at her, and she closed her eyes, mentally reaching forward to seek the answer through a psychic quagmire. When she opened them, the answer came, in the form of an outside awareness. The life surrounding her, the other Eve, the visions, on a cellular level it’s consciousness felt almost as vulnerable as it’s host. It was only in relative safety, that she could find other means of protecting herself.

A thin smile once again eased onto girls face as she took the woman’s comment to heart. Nodding her head genially in the affirmative the younger Eve took a singular step towards the area, awaiting the older woman to lead.

Eve smiled down to her and lead her down the fleshy cavern.
