It's Beginning to Look a lot like Meatmas

Kyle was looking for information, anything that gave him a clue as to what was really going on. He honestly didn’t expect some golden epiphany of information to rain down on him, but there was always a hope that he’d learn just a little bit more.

He had gone through a good deal of the books, looking for something that seemed older than the others and nothing. He had found absolutely nothing. No book of doom, no schematics of the ship, nothing. Sighing he rubbed at his temples and wondered exactly what everyone was doing. Wonder (STAR) Woman was probably trying to figure out how to eat the slop without dribbling it into her cleavage (like that was even possible), Hal was off demanding answers (as usual), Guy was probably using the ships walls as a speed bag, and who the hell was Booster Gold?

He leaned back in his chair and stared up at the ceiling… “Since when did mistletoe grow on intergalactic meatship?”

"Do you have any idea what it's talking about?" Jeka asked, putting her hands on what was, for lack of a better word, her hips. Mistletoe wasn't a natural plant of Orando, and the Earth tradition of kissing under it had been lost at some point in the nine hundred years between the twentieth- and thirtieth centuries.

"Hm, how odd." Jeka pursed her lips and looked up at the plant again. "Does it always hold people in place until they have kissed, or is that a special twist added by this ship?"

"I'm Sensor, or Jeka," she said. "We've met before, I'm with the Legion. We came to help with C.O.M.P.U.T.O. and to retrieve our teammates." She hesitated, wondering if he was from before or after the time he'd encountered the Legion. "I looked different then."

"Yes, that was me," Jeka said, glancing down at the floor. "It's nice to see you again, although I wish it could have been under better circumstances."

And now to return to the less-uncomfortable subject of the mistletoe keeping them captive. "So, just kissing, correct? Seems like an odd thing for an AI to be enforcing..."

"I have no doubt that Stacy could have grown it," Jeka said. "But it does seem a waste of resources, unless it has some other medicinal or magical properties."

She pushed her hair back over her shoulders. "I have no objections to a quick peck. Lips or cheek, or does it matter?" Just because Jeka hadn't done much kissing herself didn't mean that she was unfamiliar with the process. She'd spent the last four-plus years of her life around humanoid teenagers in high-stress situations. Kissing was fairly commonplace.

Jeka pursed her lips momentarily, then leaned in and pecked Kyle on the cheek.

What an odd tradition.

The force field had dutifully vanished. Jeka breathed a small sigh of relief.

"Now, I suppose, we should probably warn the others about what's going on. She pulled her omnicom out from one of the pockets attached to her belt and blinked. "Oh, I see we're not the first to find out about this. It seems to be happening all over the ship." She made a face. "$#%&. This is just obnoxious."
