Show me the REAL beds, plz [Closed]

This ship was odd, he wasn’t really sure what was going on or where they were supposedly going. Hell, they could have been in the belly of a giant whale for all anyone knew. He wanted to lean up against a wall while he waited for Dick, but there was something that was weird about leaning against a living ship...thing, whatever it was.

Either way he did need someone to show him around, and Dick was miles above Jason when it came to being tolerable. No, miles were an understatement. He didn’t know if it was just a Batman or Robin thing or what, but it seemed like every other member of the Bat family was either a douche or somehow insane.

Well, Dick wouldn't argue with Jason being a douche. He was working on it, but...well, it was still Jason. Tim he would argue about, but that was just because it was Tim.

Dick walked onto the Obs Deck, raising his hand with a grin. "That is so not fair," he said, making a motion toward the Green Lantern uniform.

Dick? Well, he just grinned. Because he wasn't above making a few puns of his own. "That was awful, you know." He reached out, clapping his hand on Kyle's shoulder, offering his other hand. "I don't know how well I know the ship, but I've been doing a fair bit of poking around. Enough to give you the basics, at least."

"I didn't say that. I just said it was awful." It probably helped that Dick had no idea what Kyle was heading into. Not that Kyle knew that yet.

Dick laughed and shook his head. "You're lucky. A couple times a week, we get real food now. Though a lot of us took to taking meals in the Sensoriums. Which makes it at least look and taste a bit more appetizing."

Dick shook his head. "No, you don't have to be some sort of officer." Though it was kind of understandable that Kyle might think that. When Dick ended up in any sort of group back home, he tended to end up as the leader. Or at least A leader. "But it's only recently that we've been able to access the former crew quarters. The last few weeks at best."

Dick blinked at Kyle, then shook his head. "Stacy pulls people from the last moment that she could before the timeline collapsed around them. Or so we've been told. And she apparently heals them, too." He made a motion to himself. "Like the last thing I remember? Is making my way to the Tower to call up help while Batman went to deal with Brother I." Because, well...it was Bruce's fault, wasn't it?

"You may have succeeded." Dick didn't want to think about that, but...well, it was true. "You're not the first person to arrive here when they should have been at death's door. It was the last possible moment to pull you from, no matter when the world collapsed." Hey, it made sense to him. And Dick was good at making sense of things.

Mention of zombies made him shudder and grimace. "Zombies, yes. Black power rings, no." He glanced over. "Ours were more the usual movie type zombies, though there were a lot of variation in them."

It, unfortunately, didn't mean that there weren't Black Lantern rings on the ship. Especially given some of the other stuff they'd rescued.

Dick made a soft sound and shook his head. "Hey. Don't say that, okay? I mean, come on. We're fighting not just for our universe here, but for all of them." And it meant Kyle wasn't dead, which Dick was all for. There'd been too many funerals of late.

The mention of Jason makes him look over and raise an eyebrow. "It surprises you that he might actually care?"

Okay, so it had surprised him a bit, too. But he was getting used to it. "Jason...I think a lot of this has hit him pretty hard."

He had to pause, looking over at Kyle seriously. "Kyle. You know I respect you and everything you do as a Green Lantern and as a Titan. But if you don't lay off the Jason thing, I might just punch you." He took a breath and let it out slowly. "I know there's stuff I don't know. You guys are ahead of me and I don't know what I've missed. Right now, that's a good thing where Jason's concerned. I'm the one that's easiest to reconnect with, the one that will give him a chance. And I think he needs that chance, Kyle. Because you're right, the shit really has hit the fan and if we can't get him grounded, I'm sure you can just imagine what could happen."

Yeah, Jason did that to a lot of people. He did it to Dick. Dick was just getting used to letting it roll off his back and going on.

"Nah, you don't HAVE to," Dick replied, smiling a little. "I'm just learning to pick my battles with him. Nothing about Jason is going to change overnight, assuming it really changes at all. But right now, we're ally in a really crappy situation and even he realizes that."

He looked upwards as well, then wrinkled his nose. "Luthor's here," he warned. "Not our Luthor. This one is younger and...I don't know. I haven't met him face-to-face yet, but we're keeping an eye on him." 'We' being the Bats, of course. "And there may be bad guys that we don't know about, too. Not everybody here is from our world or the worlds immediately around ours."

Oh, Dick did, too. He just called it training.

He shook his head. "Not as such. We had some trouble a few months back. We had a creature called a Yeerk in custody. Apparently they crawl into the brain and basically take a person over. This one had surrendered, partly because it was the last one. And, apparently, partly because it had no appetite for the sort of domination that the rest of the race had.

"We had a lot of people who wanted it dead, just because of what it was. We had a trial, though, and the jury decided to put it in suspended animation. But the other side...felt they knew better. So they tried to destroy it. A lot of people got injured in the fighting." He raised an eyebrow. "We don't exactly need villains for the crew to have trouble."

"Probably still getting acclimated, same as you." Dick smiled and shook his head. "It takes a bit, but things are better than they were. At least we have a vague idea what's going on, even if we're not so certain we can trust the people who gave us the information."

"Honestly, I doubt that much, at least." Dick shook his head. "I don't think it's quite that bad. But it's mostly a question of how much of what they've told us is true and how much is bull." He rubbed the back of his neck, thinking about how to explain it. "I believe that the Ohm are truly a threat. That much seems straightforward enough."

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-08 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
With any luck, it wouldn't get that bad. Though, well...who knew?

Dick shook his head. "I've not seen one, though our benefactors have said that Blue Beetle's scarab is descended from some racial seeds they planted in our universe?" He blew out a breath and laughed. "I know you're not trying to be a skeptic. Believe me, that's Batman's job." And Dick's. And Tim's. And Terry's, in all honesty. It was what they were there for. "And yeah, the crew is...about as motley as they get. The crew wasn't just snatched from our world, but from any universe that was being destroyed.

"They said we're 'blessed by the Divine Threads'." He doesn't need air quotes. They're in his voice. "People whose stories permeate the Omniverse, who have shaped the worlds and stories around them. And because of that, we're the ones who got Chosen to beat on the bug people."

He actually paused, considering it. Not that he was at all up on what book Kyle meant. One of those things about not being a Lantern and therefore not up on what was going on with them.

"I can't say one way or another," he finally admits. "It's entirely possible there are several, though I imagine you mean a specific book."

Dick rolled his eyes at that. "Of course not. Nobody ever thinks to look in the big book of everything ever." He snorted. "Not that I'd want that knowledge myself, but you'd think somebody would take the chance, right?"

Mystery was great. Dick thrived on it. But if the knowledge was there, somebody should have looked. "You'd have to ask Stacy, but be aware that she's serious about the crew's safety. So she might not, but the dominant personality right now can at least be somewhat reasoned with."

"The ship's a converted prison ship, apparently. Which meant having to rewire the personality when they repurposed her as an ark." Dick made a motion upwards. "The pirates that had control of her suppressed the nice personality, bringing out the 'guard' personality, I suppose. Bit hard-assed." And when Dick Grayson called something hard-assed, he knew whereof he spoke.

Dick snorted and laughed. "You seem to do okay for a guy with no game." Even if the girlfriends ended up dead at an alarming rate. Not that Dick knew about most of that. "Come on, this way."

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-10 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, the personality had been worse than Batman. Dick LIKED Bruce. He hadn't been too fond of Stacy.

"Just remember the 'ex' part of it," Dick suggested. "Though I'm not sure about the fact that a prison ship was kitted out with suspended animation tubes. Heck of a way to spend your sentence, if you ask me."

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-10 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Dick nodded. "And just as much chance of reoffending, honestly. Whatever the pirates did to the computer systems, it's apparently made Stacy glitchy as hell. So it's not like the prison AI personality has been put away for good.

"There are other AIs in the computer complex, though. Most of them seem to be all right. At least one is now out of commission."

"Sorry." Dick managed a smile, shaking his head. "The damage is physical as well as in the programing. Remember, organic technology. Basically, you'd be reprogramming her brain."

"I think that's about all we can do at the moment." And God, he hated that. Never had been a fan of having to just go with the flow. "And hey. The captain is Captain Picard. Take the silver linings where you can get them."

He turned a corner into a long corridor of doorways. "Welcome to the crew quarters. The beds are still kind of squishy, but you don't feel like you're being breathed on, either."

He looked down at himself and shrugged. "You kind of get used to it," Dick admitted with a shake of his head. "Would I prefer the spandex? Yeah, probably. But it has its advantages. For instance, if you get injured, it'll clamp down and keep pressure on it. And it's not bad armor, over all."

[personal profile] goddamnwingman 2009-12-16 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, it's a lot disgusting," Dick agreed with a shake of his head. "I just try not to think about it. It's vaguely useful and since I lack kevlar, it's about the best I'm going to get for the moment.

"And we've asked." Kyle really didn't think that they hadn't all asked at some point. "Stacy hasn't said why we can't, but given that we've not really found anything much in the way of clothing in Weapons and Possessions, I've hypothesized that whatever method they used to snatch us from our worlds is probably not easy on cloth. It's entirely possible that clothing just didn't make the transition."
