Building a family [hella open]

Slobo had been puttering around the ship for an hour, thinking and looking. He quickly found that if you looked hard enough, between W&P and the City itself, you could find anything. In the end, he was standing outside a Courtyard by Marriott hotel about a click outside of "Escherville" with spraypaint and a very large block of stone. At first he had thought about the Vatican, but it was too wrecked from the zombie fight. Plus, this place had an indoor pool. He spraypainted a large message on the wall next to the door, red with black outline.

On the sandwich board tucked near the door, he wrote "~~12-21?~~ Info and Tryouts inside" and left it out in front. Now, he took his large rock into the lobby and began carving. And waited.

"Wait a sec...we have a river god..in here...now?" Rose glanced around, not seeing anything in the water. But she only had a moment to look before the new girl was tumbling in. Water splashed up over her head and Rose blocked herself with her hand.

Unfortunately she missed the second cannonballer. Soon Rose was awash in pool water and laughing hysterically. "If this place had booze, smokes and sex I'd be tempted to call it heaven."

Really bad plan. As he went down, Virgil (henceforth known as toaster-boy) tried to reach into his coat to grab his disk; he could use it to keep himself out of the water and avoid the shock to everyone.

Of course, his coat was hanging on a peg on the wall.

CRAAAP!

It was about all he thought as he hit the water, trying his best to hold in his power, not let any electricity seep out into the pool.

He failed.

It wasn't as bad as it could have been, not like a full burst of his power in a small pool, but the short wasn't tiny by any means. The room sparked for a minute as his powers shorted out, giving everyone in the pool a nasty shock, like ramping a car battery through your arms for a quick second. And then the plantsuit started the drink and expand.

A really stupid idea...

Toaster-boy flailed under the water for a few seconds, trying to untangle himself from Sheeana, before getting air and clinging onto the side of the pool. "Well, now we know what happens to plantsuits in a pool," he said, taking the now overly-loose garment off and tossing it on the side.

"Ya... ya SHOCKED me." Slobo looked a bit upset. "I mean... dude... Ya need ta learn ta hold it in. No girl likes a guy who discharges randomly whenever he gets wet."

It was then that Slobo burst into a wide grin.

BUUUUUUUUURN.

Katara had decided to stay around for a little while, and was making notes about the hotel where the Outsiders were going to mark their territory. She figured that getting people together had been Slobo and Static's job: she could at least try and see what more they could do to make the place the perfect hideout. In her mind, she definitely wanted to make her plans known to Sokka. He was good at providing layouts, even if his drawing skills left something to be desired. She could handle that though.

"Hey guys, I was wondering if..." Oh, what do you know, they have a pool. Oh, what do you know, they're all naked in the pool. Katara turned away quickly, turning red. She figured that she might not be wanted in this kind of surrounding after all: she was younger than they were.

Then sniffed the air and made a face, "What did you DO to the water? It smells funny."

Normally Sheeana would have been all over these double entendres, but she was immersed in something that simply would not respond to her will and feeling the shock run wild through her nervous system. It was in her mouth, nose and eyes. She shook it out as fast as she could, grabbed hold of the pool's lip and began hauling herself towards Static, muttering ironic threats about how she would take his water and spill it on the sands.

Might be a good idea to deploy the one ability he has over her in that situation: swimming.

Sokka yelped and jittered as the shock shot through him. Ow, ow, ow! That was not a good thing! He limply paddled towards the edge of the pool, hanging off of it with a groan.

"What hit me? Did someone get th' name of that mooselion?" He hung there, not really much use for anything at the moment.

"Uhhhhhnnngggg!" Rose's teeth chattered as the shock ran through her, legs refusing to work to let her heave her body out of the pool. As soon as she regained muscle control she flopped out of the pool and lay panting and gasping on the pool deck. Her body shaking...with laughter. Loud long peas of laughter making her wrap an arm around her mid section while water puddle beneath her.

"Oh...oh god...that was... Virg you and I are never sharing a shower!" She snickered and continued trying to catch her breath.

Static started doing the traditional water-skip motion everyone in a pool does to get away from Sheeana. "I swear, that doesn't normally happen to me. Only when I'm not paying attention to my powers, like when I get surprised 'cause someone THROWS ME IN." He laughed a bit, then stopped abruptly. "Not that it's your fault, Sheeana... And my charge is dead now anyway, Rose. Water's perfectly safe now."

Safely on the other side of the pool, Static noticed Katara. "Oh, hey Kat. Guess what? We have a river god in our pool." He said, laughing.

Slobo was joining in the majority of the room's laughter. He looked at Katara.

"Seriously, river god. Tell yer friends." He laughed a bit more, then noticed Katara's back being turned. "What's the matter, Aqualass? Never seen a naked person before?"

"River god," Katara repeated. "Well, I did see Twi and La, so I guess it wouldn't be the first time I saw a river diety. And its not that naked people bother me, I was just...not expecting it, that's all. The only time I'm usually naked is when I'm bathing, or when I'm by myself."

Not that it matters, really. Katara strips down to her usual white bathing suit and plops in the water, sniffing it again. River gods made water kind of strange, she decided. But just for fun, she started to make small waves in the pool, and then she waved to Static. She wouldn't stay in the water TOO long- it wasn't fair if Static couldn't come with them.

Sheeana was not dismayed. Though she could not in the least bit swim...

(An interlude: Inside her head, a voice spoke up, maternal yet teasing: You laugh at SeaChild until you need her, eh?)

...She could suspend unnecesary functions and walk along the bottom of the pool after him like the godamn terminator.

Rose languished on the pool deck a moment more before she rolled and moved to her feet. Ohhh! Hey! Check out the diving platform. Oh yeah, moral imperative, she had to dive. A stroll around the pool took her to the board and she climbed up the steps.

"Make a hole!" She ran down the board and leaped off, tucking her body up into a ball before she hit the water. Splashes all 'round!

Static rode the wave over to the deep side of the pool; twenty feet of clear blue between his head and the bottom of the pool might just be enough to keep him alive...

"Well, Katara, you've got to remember, all the ship's given us are plant suits, which do not go well with water. It's either go naked or go home, and home's not much of an option."

He was curious about where she'd gotten her swimsuit, but not curious enough to ask. It'd draw more attention than he really wanted, after giving everyone a nice shock. "...Hey, Sheeana, can you even swim?"

Katara's wave grew a life of it's own, rearing out of the pool like a living thing and flowing as a striking snake might onto the concrete. The water was full of Naked people, but at least it was purified, and that was enough for this river god. As the light fragmented through the dragon-formed water, color and shape took place of clarity as scales and hair blossomed into existence. Dragon-formed, Haku snorted at the swimmers, then coiled himself comfortably among the swamped beach chairs like a giant, horned snake.

Don't doubt the river god, yo.

Sheeana didn't hear him ask, or much of anything else really. She was propelled by nothing more than extreme annoyance, a golem walking through a slow, breathless atmosphere.

Then she went down to her heels and sprang up. A dark heel she plucked like fruit from a tree and came up behind toaster-boy, taking a shuddering breath when she hit the surface, hooking a foot around his back and the other to an intake valve. Suitably restrained, her expression changed suddenly, voice now a different kind of growl, still menacing but also the kind that short-circuited teenage boy brains....well, normal ones anyway. "Now boy, did noone ever teach you not to put your hands on a girl before she's ready?" They were the same age but it was in her nature to call him 'boy'.

While he wanted to laugh at Static getting owned, he had something more important to point out to everyone. He grinned maniacally and pointed at Haku.

"I told ya! River god! In our pool! We are the best team EVER!" Seriously. Let's see Kon tell him the Titans had a river god. Really.

Katara was a little surprised by the River God, but again wasn't outright shocked. Things like this tended to happen when you were around with the Avatar. She didn't mind him being there though, and she gave him a short bow, smiling. Anything affiliated with water was usually a friend of hers in her book. She would have engaged him in conversation, actually, if she hadn't looked over her shoulder at that moment.

It seemed like Static was in a mess of trouble with Sheena, and Katara had one of her typical reactions: she rose a wave toward the two of them, looking a little bothered.

"What's going on here?"

Sokka is too busy floating around on his back to pay much attention to the shenanigans going on outside the pool. It's so good to just relax here. No worrying about space pirates or the end of the world or the Fire Nation...

Ok...River God. "Well there's something you don't see everyday." The dragony looking critter laid out on the pool deck and continued to look impressive, Rose shook her head and laughed.

"This is gonna rock, seriously, it has to."

Static was quickly loosing the ability to use real words. Water was not his forte, and having someone pinning him in place didn't really help the situation...

"...Sorry?" He chuckled a little; more a panic-laugh than anything else. "But now you know what it's like. And we can teach you to swim if you want, too. Just don't kill me, and we can arrange it."

Yeah, this had been a really, really bad idea...

A wave stared down at her (twice in two days she was menaced by water, the stuff of life for a Fremen) eyeless but peeved as its master. Rapidly evaluating things, she checked the social tensions.

"Well, I suppose you may buy your life with that. And you are rather a pretty boy, it would be a shame to kill you..." She smiled and loosened her grip on him. Now what was that about a river god...She craned over to the pool chairs and saw...

What from that angle looked like a worm, coiled and resting amid the plastic. "Shai-hulud! What are you doing h-...oh." She looked a bit chagrined at her mistake.

Daughter of Sand, you have no idea what you're getting into, Haku thought and gave a scoff to the lot of them. He was here to purify the water, that was all. It had nothing to do with companionship or meeting new friends, or anything else except gathering information.

Nothing, really. Really.

Haku yawned, showing a great deal of very sharp dragon-teeth and settled back into his nap. Troublesome humans. None of them were talking to him at any rate. Chihiro...

Katara gave a lasting look at Sheena and Static but figured that they'd been involved in their own squabble. At any rate, Static was older than her, and knew that adults tended to have their own ways of teasing each other. In any case, now that she knew that he was okay, she was very curious about the River God that was curled up in a nap.

She approached him cautiously, knowing he was sleeping and trying her best not to get him too agitated. After all, she wasn't really familiar with how to greet gods, that was more Aang's bag. Still, she could at least introduce herself.

"Hello," she said softly, in case he was still sleeping. "My name is Katara. It's nice to meet someone who's power is my element. What is your name?"

Boldly, Haku put his nose close enough to Katara that when he inhaled sharply to catch her scent it drew out her hair loopies.

Water, and salt. Fire. Woodsmoke and Ozone. Great potential. The dragon sneezed and did something he hadn't done in quite a long time: without changing form, he spoke.

"Nigihayami Kohaku Nushi," He intoned, and because it was a proper name it would not translate, so he repeated it in a different form, so that it would be understandable to the girl. His voice was low and echoic, like a fast, deep river against the walls of a narrow, low-ceiling cave, "The God of the Kohaku River. I am known as Haku."

Katara had not expected that but that didn't mean she wouldn't get the significance. She bowed shortly, and looked at the dragon a moment.

"I am a waterbender, and my element means everything to me. It is an honor to meet you."
