Building a family [hella open]

Slobo had been puttering around the ship for an hour, thinking and looking. He quickly found that if you looked hard enough, between W&P and the City itself, you could find anything. In the end, he was standing outside a Courtyard by Marriott hotel about a click outside of "Escherville" with spraypaint and a very large block of stone. At first he had thought about the Vatican, but it was too wrecked from the zombie fight. Plus, this place had an indoor pool. He spraypainted a large message on the wall next to the door, red with black outline.
"OUTSIDERS
COMMUNITY SERVICE
FIELD TRAINING
PEER COUNSELING

On the sandwich board tucked near the door, he wrote "12-21? Info and Tryouts inside" and left it out in front. Now, he took his large rock into the lobby and began carving. And waited.

Mai toyed with a knife and responded to Slobo with a shrug, "Scare him? Maybe. That's more of Azula's thing."

"Wow, Chalky, your confidence in me is astounding." Static said, walking in from the office behind the counter and sipping his coffee. "See, you call it spacing out, I call it planning. We'd be happy to have you on our field team, Mai. You may not have powers, but from what I've seen, that doesn't slow you down one bit. In fact, if you're up for it, we could use you to help train some of the others, when they join. Of course, you will still have to participate in training exercises; it's more team building and working together than anything else."

Mai flipped a knife into the far wall. Then another, the points virtually touching. Then a third. She glanced up at Static as she toyed with a fourth, "I don't train people."

She hurled the fourth knife, which also ended up quivering in the far wall, "They'll be fine without my help."

"Are you positive?" There was an idea forming in Static's head, but it wasn't a pretty one. It was deceitful, cowardly, and manipulative. But, it was the only one had at the moment. "In the fight against HAL, what if you hadn't been able to make the shot? What if something else was blocking you, or holding you, so you couldn't do it? Are you positive the rest of us, with powers or not, could have stopped it? Think about what might have happened to Zuko. If you can train people to be half as good with knives as you are, we're one step closer to being sure nothing like that does happen."

It was a low blow, and Static knew it. He was just praying she didn't try and kill him for it (okay, so she did scare him a little, alright?).

The knife which Mai had been twirling idly in her hand, went still, Mai's hand clenched around the hilt. Her eyes flashed dangerously for a moment, although the only evidence of anger in her face and frame was a slight tensing of her body and the slight down-turn of her lips, "I said I don't train people."

She glanced up at him, fixing him with a glare, "And I made the shot, so that question is pointless. By the way..."

Her wrist flicked, the knife spinning out of her hand, heading straight for Static's coffee cup.

"...don't try to emotionally black mail me ever again."

He jumped back a little as the cup shattered and got coffee everywhere. But still, Static smiled as he wiped his hands off on his plansuit. The coffee was hot, but he was going for the grain-and-deal approach.

"That wasn't emotional blackmail. That was just a hypothesis. My point still stands, having more people with abilities like yours would be a good thing. But, I won't force you to train anyone. Hell, I won't force you to do anything, interest of the crew or not." He stood up and walked back behind the wall again to get an all-new, probably-still-hot coffee.

"Welcome to the team, by the way."

Mai eyed Static with an expression of vague distaste. Call it what he wants, she hated having her emotions and feelings for Zuko being used to manipulate her, "Whatever you say."

Her gaze flickered back to Slobo, "Sure. I can do that."

"He's my boyfriend," she responded curtly, "And I'll ask but I'm not going to try and convince him for you."
