Building a family [hella open]

 Slobo had been puttering around the ship for an hour, thinking and looking. He quickly found that if you looked hard enough, between W&P and the City itself, you could find anything. In the end, he was standing outside a Courtyard by Marriott hotel about a click outside of "Escherville" with spraypaint and a very large block of stone. At first he had thought about the Vatican, but it was too wrecked from the zombie fight. Plus, this place had an indoor pool. He spraypainted a large message on the wall next to the door, red with black outline.

PEER COUNSELING" 

 

On the sandwich board tucked near the door, he wrote "12-21? Info and Tryouts inside" and left it out in front. Now, he took his large rock into the lobby and began carving. And waited.

"I can't believe you're actually going through with this." Static said as he walked up, wiping some grease off his forehead. "I mean, it's not like people don't have enough to deal with already, we're gonna toss this in too?"

"Hey, man, we need to build some chemistry with our peeps if we're gonna live." Slobo said as he carved away. "Ya can't build a workin' V8 by jammin' a buncha gears and pistons together. And we need serious horsepower ta save the universe. This is just me making sure a good portion of us develop that chemistry." He sighed heavily.

"Hey, man, that green kid who saved our butts? What was his name?"

"...BRAINIAC FIVE, you idiot. If you're gonna build a statue for him, you should at least remember that much. And you may want to use the sensoriums to build a model of what you're carving, just to get it all right. This can't be half-assed, you know." He wasn't just talking about the statue. "This has to be done right."

Static walked over to where Slobo had left the can of spraypaint, shook it up a bit, and sprayed a line through the 'O' of 'Outsiders'.

"This has to be perfect."

"Well, then, help out. Can't build this bike on my own." Slobo said nonchalantly as he outlined the base and put "Brainiac 5" in block lettering on it.

"...with the statue, or the team?"

"The team, Shocky. I got a pretty good memory fer guys who get fragged in front o' me, so the statue ain't no thing." He paused. "'Course, yer powers might help me speed up the process..."

"They might, but doesn't using the easy way kind of take the point out of it?" He sighed. "Alright, so what do you need me to do for the team? As long as it doesn't piss Stacy off, and I can still make my shifts for repair work, I'm in."

He chuckled. "I feel like we should write 'Shocky and Chalky, proprietors' on this."

Slobo chuckled too.

"Well, ya got a rapport with the old timers like me. Lead fer a bit until we can figure out a way to rope Kon or Birdboy inta the position." He took a large chunk, and B5's head was slowly forming.

"I'll handle trainin' newbies. You handle the community service part."

"Awesome. You know, we just may be able to pull this off...Oh, what are doing about membership?"

"Anyone who wants can join. This ain't just a team, it's gonna be like a family. People with skills? They get field team. Kids without? They get trained." He began working on the eyes.

"Team gets big enough, we start multiple field teams. Like those X-dudes."

"Good plan. Who knows, maybe we can even get approval for this... Oh, next question, are we gonna divvy out rooms here?"

"Yep. Dibs on the presidential suite." There was no pause as he said it. "Hey, did he have somethin' on his forehead, or is that the other green guy?"

"Alright let me see if I can do this... I know BL can..." Static closed his eyes and concentrated on the space between his hands, trying to create an electric image out of his mental image of Brainy. He started sweating. "This is harder than it has any right to be..."

"Right, he did. Alright, Shocky, don't kill yerself." He said as he added that detail. "Then I'd just have ANOTHER statue ta make."

"Psh, Like I'd trust you to make it."He grinned, letting the illusion disappear. "You'dprobably do something like give mine a mustache and write 'died like a fraggin' idiot helping to make some else's statue' on it."
