ZOMBIE POD POP! (zompop?)

[ooc: Newbie Helpers List | Instructions: First, read *HERE*. Then, once you've read the overall plan, post your character into the main thread establishing them as being podpopped, and reacting to the oncoming zombie horde (since there is no Stacy replies to comment to, it will all be one thread, instead of individual threads). This can include fighting and/or fleeing if you want. Eventually, volunteers from Team Left Behind will rush in and save the day. Obviously, since there's no time for it while fighting for your lives against zombies, this podpop won't get the whole ||You have been Chosen|| speech from Stacy, so they'll have to get their answers (and pants) later.]

||Pod Release Protocols Initating|| Stacy's familiar voice sounds out to all the podmates through the ship.

In the Pod Caverns, there are the sounds of: Pop. Pop pop pop. Poppuhpoppoppop. KASCHUNKhiiiiiiiissssss.

There is condensation and mist spraying out from cracks in the pods, as the people inside slide out onto the floors, covered in slime.

--

There was nothing. You were going about your normal life, then there was a bright light, and then? Nothing.

Then the world lurches.

The chamber here is humid.

Actually, "chamber" isn't quite accurate. You're in a cavern, half-lit by an eerie greenish light, going on and on as far as the eye can see. The light is coming from what can only be described as pods, glistening, round greenish-yellow things, glowing with a pale inner light, outlining human -- and not quite human -- forms. Each is rooted to the floor, to the walls, with something black, twisted, and unidentifiable.

They line the walls of the cavern, go up in maddeningly high columns, curling and corkscrewing up into the darkness, until the light from them is like that of the stars, glowing pale and mournful in clusters in the darkness above. Twisted walkways and stairs crisscross, traverse the platforms in front of the pods, wending their way back and forth, up and down through the chamber.

You just came from one of those pods, broke free like a butterfly from a (slimy, nasty) chrysalis.

Now you stand alone but not quite alone, naked, not knowing how you got there, who took you, or why you were taken.

As your body heats up again, you realize the air is warm -- just a few degrees too warm to be comfortable -- and muggy; it smells acrid and organic, like freshly spilt blood and sweat. Your mouth tastes of salt.

The floors are pulsing under your feet, throbbing...

Wherever you are, this entire place...is alive.

Oh, and also you're naked and covered in alien snot.

And this is the point everything goes to hell.

You see, not too long ago, a psychopathic AI unleashed a horde of zombies on this ship, and now they were making their way to these very caverns, eager to eat the flesh off your bones.

Less than a minute after you've been plopped from out of your pod, you hear the sounds of the ravening undead horde making their way through the tunnels towards you, and it's pretty damn obvious what they're looking for.

Ready or not, here they come.

"Yeah... I can't keep my powers, only copy one until I copy another, so I never seem to have enough time to get used to them." He shrugged. "When you're a paramedic with my ability, though, you go for the power that lets you help the most people."

Wally nods, "Tell me about it. I've had mine since I was a kid and it still took me years to get the hand of phasing. Used to explode walls whenever I ran through them. Made for one hell of a dramatic entrance, though."

Peter looked at him questioningly. Phasing was what DL had done. This guy had speed.

"What do you mean, phasing? I thought you were fast..." In Peter's worlds, only three types of people had more than one power. Empaths... Hiro... and...

"I really hope you always had more than one ability..." He meant that too, though the fear of what else was possible showed on his face. Peter liked Wally. However, he had had his own experiences with what Wally had called "power stealers". And his weren't nearly as pleasant.

"Some came quicker than others," he replies. The days when lightspeed was a challenge seems like a distant memory, "All pretty speed-related though. I know guys who have pretty much everything."

Serious cultureshock. Peter stood back at superspeed, creating a gust. OTHER Arthur Petrellis? OTHER Sylars? Suddenly, Wally's fear of power stealers made sense to Peter.

But then, empaths could do that to. But if they existed in Wally's world, Wally wouldn't have been so afraid.

"And you allow that?!" Peter seemed very shocked, and was decided only making sense to Peter. "How many evolved humans had to die for them to get that power? How many people PERIOD?!" He seemed excitable right now. Best to talk him down.

"Whoah, whoah... chillax a millisec," Wally insists, holding up his arms, "It's not a survival of the fittest deal. Most of us get caught in some accident, like I got struck by lightning while working with chemicals."

He'd go into how that wasn't a totally implausible scenario, but they'd be there all day.

"Others are just born with them, or are from an alien race. Kryptonians and Daxamites are pretty much Gods under a yellow sun. And yeah, not all of them are good guys, that's sort of why we need those good guys in the first place."

Peter chills for a second. Wally seemed like a good guy. Hell, were he a bad guy, he would have thrown Peter to the zombies by now. And not come back to help people. Kryptonians? Daxamites... Red haired guy with superspeed... Waaaaaaaiiiiit for it...

"Holy $H!+! You're the FLASH!" A comic book icon. One of the heroes that, as a child, made Peter want to be extraordinary so much. Peter had a moment of fanboyishness before logic began to kick in. These people weren't real. They were in books like Isaac had made up. He shook his head quickly, and looked at Wally skeptically.

"Wait... You... Those things... They aren't real..."

"Yeah, that'd be me," Wally replies, cocking his head. That wasn't the surprising part; he was used to getting recognised, even without the costume, "Uh... what things aren't real?"

"Superman... The Flash... Batman... You guys are comic books..." Peter wasn't sure how to take this. It sounded silly to say that they didn't exist, since four short years earlier he would have been surprised at anyone with powers. But where he was from, that's how things worked.

"I just... People like you exist, but not ACTUALLY the guys themselves..." The confusion was still apparent in his voice. This was almost as jarring as when he had first flown.

"Where the hell am I?!"

[identity profile] hugelikexbox.livejournal.com 2009-11-04 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Wally... Doesn't know how to take that. Yeah, a lot of heroes (himself included) had comics written in their honour, but how could Peter not know the real deals existed?

Given the occasional vactation into the multiverse he'd undertaken in the past he'd already written of the veritible cornucopia of oddities springing from the podpop to transdimensional distrubances, but there was a world out there where there wasn't an alternate version of the Flash, but a fictional one?

He just stares at Peter and rubs the back of his neck, "Your guess is as good as mine, but we ought to start getting these people towards the exit."

Peter shook off his own shock and nodded.

"Yeah, that's the important thing. We can talk about this once we're all zombie free." He looked around quickly, and a small smirk emerged as he noticed the zombies had nearly not moved. "Not that it mattered for us anyway. I'll grab the reindeer boy, as I'm tired and not as strong as I have been. You wanna take the big angry japanese guy?"

Wally winks as he grabs his allocated quarry, "Race you to the top!"

A fraction of a second later, the bang of the sound barrier breaking sends a section of the zombie horde toppling over in ripples.

Peter enjoyed meeting the Flash. He grabbed the reindeer boy and ran after him.

He would lose, but it wouldn't be any fun if he didn't try, would it?

Chopper let himself be picked up and carried, bewildered by everything going on around him. Fear has him so gripped in it's clutches that he couldn't muster any sort of resistance to the human helping hand. These zombies were even scarier than the ones at Thriller Bark!
