Newbie Meet N' Greet

Meet n' Greet, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat! Unfortunately, the newbie meet and greet takes place the same time the command staff is congregating, so they might be a little late to the party.

But the crew is there to welcome the newcomers and explain their situation. At the end of the milling and spilling about, the command staff is going to start a general meeting to apprise everyone of their situation and discuss their next course of action:

Getting off the damn ship.

Jeka certainly recognized that body language, and quickly moved to change the subject. She would encourage Olivia to visit the sickbay later, in a more private setting, though.

"It's a pleasure, Agent Dunham," she said smoothly, with a small bow. "I'm Jeka Wynzorr, codenamed Sensor, of the planet Orando. This is Brainiac 5, of Colu. We're both with the Legion of Superheroes."

"It's nice to meet you, Miss Sensor, Mr. Five," she says with a nod to them both. She decides to ask a question that's been on her mind for a while.

"You wouldn't happen to know a Peter or Walter Bishop by any chance?" She knows what the answer will be already, but she can't help but hope.

"I'm afraid not," Jeka said, shaking her head sympathetically. She pulled out her own omnicom and checked through the list. "And they don't appear to be on the contact list either. I'm sorry."

Olivia gives a quick smile, showing her thanks, and glances away. After a moment she looks back at Jeka. "Thank you. I didn't expect them to be here, in any case."

"We're planning to get everyone back sooner rather than later," Jeka said. "We'll keep you posted on the omnicoms."

"Thank you," Olivia says with a small smile which fades as she returns to business. "How do the omnicoms work?"

"Oh, they're very simple," Jeka said, leaning forward and pointing out a few icons on the screen. "This one brings up the note-taking function, where you can record your thoughts and observations. This one records audio; this one records video; and this one sends and receives messages either to the whole crew, or to specific crew members."

She pulled out her own omnicom and typed in a quick message and sent it to Olivia's omnicom.

"It's run through the ship's translators, so you don't need to worry about someone not understanding what you write."

Olivia's omnicom beeped and Jeka's message appeared on her screen: Does this all make sense?

Olivia presses the audio button, not completely trusting her hands to type one out properly. "Yes, it makes sense. So it's a lot like a cellphone." She ends the recording and sends it.

"Which function do most people use?"

There's a beep as Olivia's message arrives.

"Similar, yes," Jeka said. "They're hand-held personal computers, really. Standard issue Legionnaire equipment when and where Brainy and I come from."

Yes, "when and where". This wasn't Jeka's first encounter with time travel.

"I tend to use mine mostly for communication and taking notes, but I have used it make recordings and such. I have a few books on it as well."

"So the text component is most often used."

Olivia decides to ignore the "when" part. She'll rationalize that when she gets a moment to think.

"At least in my case, yes," Jeka said. "I imagine that the Engineering Department has other uses for them." She clasped her hands in front of her. "Is there anything else?"

"No, thank you. You've been very helpful, Miss Sensor. Since we're both stuck here, I'm sure I'll be seeing you around." Olivia's small smile actually sticks this time.

"You're quite welcome, Agent Dunham." Jeka smiled back. "And it's just Sensor."
