Newbie Meet N' Greet

Meet n' Greet, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat! Unfortunately, the newbie meet and greet takes place the same time the command staff is congregating, so they might be a little late to the party.

But the crew is there to welcome the newcomers and explain their situation. At the end of the milling and spilling about, the command staff is going to start a general meeting to apprise everyone of their situation and discuss their next course of action:

Getting off the damn ship.

Bart tilted his head and frowned for a moment. How did Static know his name? "I'm Impulse. Nice to meet you. Are you like, Black Lightning's kid then? I've never gotten that name. Lightning's blueish-white when he makes it, same as all lightning! Shouldn't it be black? What would black lightning even look like?"

"Well, if cartoons have taught me anything, black lightning's black, but it glows purple. As for JP, he calls himself that 'cause he throws lightning bolts, and he's black. You gotta remember, when he started out, black capes were rare. I'm not related to him, but I did meet him at my high school's graduation ceremony last year. Guy named Holocaust showed up, there was a fight... He's a good guy. 'Course, he's no titan." Static said, playing with his communicator. One of the nice things about being a titan was if you talked to another teenage or younger superhero, there's always an immediate recognition of what it means. And sometimes, that recognition is a good thing.

It took Bart a moment to think about that. Then he frowned. "Oh. I forget about things like that sometimes. We don't have racism in the 30th century. Otherwise we'd have to call everyone things like Green Brainiac. Greyish Gates. People can get pretty colorful. Hey, I was a Titan!" He grinned again. "It was pretty cool, but now I'm in Young Justice and that's more fun. Though Rose was a Titan too. I liked her."

"Yyeah... Rose is a bit of a sore point.. but, I guess you'll find out about that later on. What we have here, my superpseedy friend, is a problem of time. It looks like they pulled you out a few years earlier than they pulled me; When I'm from, you've not only been in young justice and a titan, but you became the F-" He stopped himself from saying anymore. "I prolly shouldn't tell you about your future, huh? That'd get a little weird. And for the record, I am now always going to call him Green Brainiac."

"I BECAME THE FLASH?" Bart bounced up, grinning so wide his face seemed in danger of splitting. "Is that what you were gonna say? Am I the Flash like Grampa Barry? Am I good at it? Wally was gonna make Jesse Quick the Flash, not me. Wally's a jerk." His face darkened for a second, then cleared. "That is what you were gonna say, right? Me? The Flash? Wait, didsomethinghappentoWally? I don't like 'im but I don't want him hurt or anything!" The rest of what Static had said caught up to him and he waved a hand. "Don't worry about that, I'm immune to temporal paradox. It's a speedster thing." Bart grinned. "You should! Maybe I'll do it too. He'd probably give me that look like he really has to go to the bathroom again. He does that a lot. Is Wally okay? How about Linda? Max? Is Max proud of me for being the Flash?"

Static let out a long sigh. "Suffice it to say, you go Younge Justice, Teen Titans, turn down the JL, then back to us. Of course, that's after you and Connor die, then you grow up, then you come back as a teen again... man, superhero logistics are weird." He flashed, his eyes wide and he quickly turned to look Bart in the eyes. "This doesn't leave us. I dunno if he knows about the death and return of Superboy, and I don't wanna totally mess up his future...like I just did yours..." He closed his eyes, pained. "Look, it all works out, and that's what matters, right? For you and Wally."

"What? Me and Green Arrow die? And SUPERBOY TOO? But I thought I'm the Flash! At least tell me we go out saving the world or something." Bart frowned a little. "I'm not gonna be born for centuries, you haven't messed up my future. I told you I'm immune to paradox. Plus, I haven't lived it yet. So, you know, guess we'll see, huh? Anyways, that's a long time from now. I've got plenty of time to live now, right?" He grinned. "I'm sure the future will be fun no matter what happens. So don't worry, okay?"

"Time paradox is tricky; just by knowing events that happen (and knowing you), you're gonna go out of your way to fix things. But, since we're already here... As far as I know, GA died years ago and came back, like Green Lantern did. I meant Superboy when I said Connor.. it's his human name. Connor Kent. he died saving not just the world, but the multiverse. From what I understand, you and Wally disappeared into the 'speed force'thingie then came back as, like, a twenty year old. With Wally gone, you became the Flash for awhile, before you were killed by Captain Cold and his guys. Something about a device pulling speed. Anyway, after the big crisis where Batman died, you and Con-Superboy came back from the 31st century as teenagers again. What Con said was 'Brainy did it'. Now, proper now, you're Kid Flash again. You, Superboy, Blue Beetle, you guys are some of my best friends and teammates."

"Waitwaitwaitwait." Bart vanished in a blur. He ran back to the room that had his ring where-- yes! There was some kind of old map that couldn't be very important to anyone and a bright green quill pen and ink. He grabbed them and raced back to Static. An entire second and a half had elapsed.

"Okayokayokay. So you say that Connor Hawke died and came back. And me and Superboy too? Superboy's named Conner Kent? What kinda name is that? Why's he have a secret ID anyways?"

He pulled out the map and lay it on the ground, kneeling over it. "We can make a diagram. Start over."

Static rubbed his hand along his chin and sighed. Again. This was becoming a habit... "Alright, just remember, I wasn't there for a lot of this, so my accounts come from conversations with, well, you and a few of the other guys on the team." Having set his disclaimer, he began again, from the beginning.

Bart nodded and listening, sketching faces and lines and names in a very elaborate diagram as Static talked. When he was done, Bart stood back and admired his work.

"...I think maybe I should just let my life happen how it happens," he finally decided. "Cause the future makes no sense. I got lost when... Superboy and Connor Hawke merged into Super Green Arrow and died or something."

Static groaned and rubbed his eyes. "Yeah, you know what? Let's just go with that. Just let it happen. Good choice."

Bart shrugged and zoomed the map and pen back to where he'd found it. Someday, someone would podpop and find their map had an incredibly detailed and complicated chart detailing a few years of superhero history, but they could deal with that when the time came.

He reappeared a second later and grinned. "Thanks for trying to tell me anyways. I bet I'll be a great Flash. Way better than Wally."

"Well, from what I saw, you did alright. And for the record, Wally's good at what he does. It's not easy raising two superspeedy kids and saving the world."

Bart shook his head so fast his face blurred. "No way Wally has kids. Wally hates kids."

Static held up two fingers. "Twins. I've only met them once, but for their age, they seem pretty cool. They don't have speed, though. His son can be super strong by making his muscles huge, his daughter can phase through stuff. He's a pretty cool guy; you're lucky to have him for a mentor...later on."

"Nonononono. Wally hates kids. He's not my mentor, Max Mercury is." Bart shook his head, scowling. "If he had kids, he'd probably just make Jesse raise 'em or something. He doesn't do sidekicks. Not that I'd wanna be even if I could."

"Trust me, Bart. He changes in a few years. So do you. So does Max..." Static's voice gets quieter as he says the last bit. No one seems to know what happened to Max Mercury; he just disappeared. Like most speedsters seem to.

"What happened to Max?" Bart was suddenly right in Static's face, grabbing the sides of his coat. "Tell me! Is he okay? Is he proud of me?"

"As far as I know, he's fine. But, that doesn't say much... I've never actually met him. And, seeing as you usually look happy, I'm gonna assume he's proud of you."

Bart beamed. "That's good. Maybe the future's pretty cool even if it is confusing. And I-- BRAINY!" he said as he caught site of the Coluan. "Itwasnicetalkingtoyoubye!"he said as he vanished in a blur.
