Newbie Meet N' Greet

Meet n' Greet, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat! Unfortunately, the newbie meet and greet takes place the same time the command staff is congregating, so they might be a little late to the party.

But the crew is there to welcome the newcomers and explain their situation. At the end of the milling and spilling about, the command staff is going to start a general meeting to apprise everyone of their situation and discuss their next course of action:

Getting off the damn ship.

"Wow, and here I was hoping the creepy living ship would be white-gangster free. Silly me." Static said, giving the kid a quick looking over. "Name's Static." He said, holding out his hand. Best not to make any enemies when you still don't really know where you are.

"Yo, Dark Smoke Puncher representin' the gang from my hood," Dark Smoke Puncher said, complete with hand gestures before shaking his hand, mentally wishing the ship was 'white gangster' free, but of course, just because his brother left doesn't mean more family wouldn't come back.

Dark Smoke Puncher didn't break his act easily.

Static shook his hand, then pointed a finger at his face. "Stop that. Seriously. I'm from 'the hood'; We don't even talk that that. It's demeaning, and you've got a ninja mask so you don't need it. Ninja trumps gangster. True fact."

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-03 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ninja trumps? Dawg, your hood sounds whack. Gangsta trumps all," Dark Smoke Puncher. Actually, it sounded like the best hood ever. Sadly, ninja didn't trump gangsta back home. He got more friends when he was being gangsta then when he was just being his ninja self. "And everyone from my hood talks like this, yo." Well, they pulled it off a bit better. It was natural for them.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-10-03 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, seriously. Stop that. Your hood is wrong."

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-03 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Dark Smoke Puncher raised an eyebrow. "Dawg, if you're gonna talk smack about me bein' demeanin', then you should recall that not all hoods go the same route. They got their own dialect and way of speakin', so sayin' how they go is wrong would be the same smack you're sayin' I'm pullin'."

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-10-03 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Static snickered, trying to hold in his laughter. He failed. "Dude, I don't know how you managed to both use Ebonics and make a well-rounded point, but I'm impressed. Where're you from, anyway?" He said with a smile.

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-03 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Dark Smoke Puncher wanted to groan at the laughter. Everyone here really thought the ebonics were silly.

But his parents couldn't find out.

"Cumberland, Maryland, dawg. Where you hailin' from?"

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Dakota, Illinois. It's a big city, with plenty of gang issues, but we manage. Not that I've been back in months.. I've been hanging out in San Fran with the Titans lately. So, next question, what's goin' on around here?"

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"We've been kidnapped by this whack ship with it's desire to have us perspire to do it's great purpose. It keeps what it is on the down low, so nobody knows." Meaning, they've been kidnapped to do work that the ship won't tell them what.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I can guess how that's gonna end for us. Thanks for the heads up. And two points for the rhyme."

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Usual superhero comic scenario, yo," Dark Smoke Puncher said with a nod, forgetting for a moment that he shouldn't make it obvious he knows comic books.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Except that usually in comics you get only three or four heroes, a shipful of slaves, and a fight between heroes at the beginning, 'cause that's just how teams are formed." Static nodded as he said this. He'd seen it a thousand times in comics, and more than a few in his life, too.

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
And then Dark Smoke Puncher realized the slip.

"I guess you know more about that than me then, dawg. Not into comics," he said. It was common enough knowledge this was a sci fi plot cliche, right? Right?

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Static shrugged. "If you say so. But, for the record, there's nothing wrong with comics. It's a very unique art form. Plus, you can get some great ideas from 'em."

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"And it's a geek thing. Not my style, yo," Dark Smoke Puncher said with a shrug.

[identity profile] static-shock68.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Whatever you say." Static said with a smile. It seemed like this guy had some stuff he wanted to keep hidden, but who could blame him? Public school is good at teaching you to deny things.

[identity profile] gangstageek.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"It's just....my bro. Major geek, Batman stuff all over his room. I heard stuff, for real," Dark Smoke Puncher said. Why yes, he was quite obviously trying to hide something. At least he was now that he did slip.
