Newbie Meet N' Greet

Meet n' Greet, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat! Unfortunately, the newbie meet and greet takes place the same time the command staff is congregating, so they might be a little late to the party.

But the crew is there to welcome the newcomers and explain their situation. At the end of the milling and spilling about, the command staff is going to start a general meeting to apprise everyone of their situation and discuss their next course of action:

Getting off the damn ship.

"Special Weapons wing turned into the Engineering Department." Why did everything seem to point back to using science as a weapon? "And Cybil Bennet semi-organized you. But then she turned that over to... Jean-Luc Picard." She would have been a bit more concerned if she hadn't already met someone back home who thought he was Spock. "You don't happen to have any connections to Massive Dynamic, do you?" Since after all, all roads seemed to lead to that company, some way, some how.

"No. I worked for DARPA."

He prefers science for defense, but - yeah.

"Look, you've got a lot of questions, and me, I'd love to answer them, but we're all short on answers. Even the ship brains."

There's a small device like a PDA or a handheld computer in his hand, and he holds it out for her inspection.

"Brainy, Billy Cranston and I designed these for shipwide communication. They're omnicoms. Think of them as internet that only applies to everyone else on Stacy. I'm pretty sure Billy's handing them out over there -" he gestures towards the kid - "so if you could use something to record your thoughts and questions on, get your hands on one. I can't guarantee that your entries won't be hacked if you private them - too many brilliant motherfuckers on this ship - but I can guarantee I'll know who did it."

She just thought for a minute. "So... We don't know what's really going on here. That's what you're saying. That we're all in the dark. Even the people like you." There was a small pause. "Well, thank you very much for your help. I'll be sure to ask you if something goes wrong with the omnicom, Mr. Gentry."

"Pretty much. We can surmise that something went pretty wrong with the crew before us, and that the crew had some hand in assessing certain early abductees, but seeing as how none of the crew are around for us to question, we're mostly stuck going on the few records left that have missed Stacy's confidentiality wipe."

He pauses a moment before reaching out to put her hand on her shoulder. "Hey. If you're freaked out, don't feel like you need to hide it from everybody around you. We all flip out from time to time."

Olivia gave a small smile that flickered before hiding again. "Thanks. I'll... I think I'll be alright. Just as soon as I get some work to do, I'll be fine. After all, there's no reason for me not to do my job just because I'm not at home." And if she had work she would have a reasonable excuse for the few hours of sleep she would inevitably get. It was the status quo these days.
