Newbie Meet N' Greet

Meet n' Greet, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat! Unfortunately, the newbie meet and greet takes place the same time the command staff is congregating, so they might be a little late to the party.

But the crew is there to welcome the newcomers and explain their situation. At the end of the milling and spilling about, the command staff is going to start a general meeting to apprise everyone of their situation and discuss their next course of action:

Getting off the damn ship.

"It's never in my best interest to do something that screams 'kill me, kill me now,'" Buffy says back, studying his face carefully. "I already died twice, thanks. Not so keen on going for a hat trick."

"The crew as a whole rather objects to murderous rampages," the naga contributed in a husky, alto voice. "And Brainy and myself have both sworn oaths to put a stop to such things anyway." She reached into the containers they'd brought to the Obs Deck with them, and presented a ring and a small hand-held computer-looking device to Buffy. As she did, the muscles in her face shifted around, as if she was raising the eyebrows that she didn't have.

"Really, twice?"

"Yeah. The first time was only for like a minute, but it happened. The second time was for a few months," Buffy says as she pockets Mr. Pointy and slings the scythe across her back. "Sorry. I'm just...this is very new. And very uncomfortable. And you guys look...not like people I'm used to, and this is very awkward to say without being potentially insulting, and that's so not where I'm heading with this," she explains. "Uh. I'm Buffy."

"I am Brainiac 5, of Colu, and this is Jeka Wynzorr, also know as Sensor, of Orando," Brainy says, introducing them both, and the glow of the shield fades slightly.

He doesn't seem horribly offended, but it is a grim reminder of the xenophobia of the past--and occasionally their present--to get such a reaction.

"While we both lived there for a time, we're not from Earth," he says, by way of explanation. "Obviously."

"What's a Colu?" Buffy asks before looking at Jeka. "And...okay, so I know that people get snakes and stuff in their toilets in Florida, but I didn't know that Floridian wildlife was so far...advanced..."

Wait...he said...

Not from Earth.

"So you guys are...uh...is 'alien' the PC term here?"

"'Alien' is acceptable," Jeka said. And oh grife, was she having flashbacks to when Kon first joined the Legion! The comments, the back-pedaling... "Non-human crew members seem to be the minority on this ship, and we're certainly aliens on Earth."

She held out the omnicom and the ring again. "Anyway, these are for you."

Buffy took them in her hand, studying them. "Cool. Jewelry. Is this like a class ring or something?"

"It's a comm-ring, and that is an omnicom, a personal computing device with a link up to other omnicoms on the ship. Both allow for communication with the rest of the crew."

"Right. Like texting and stuff." Pikachu had already shown Buffy how to use one. "It's all kinds of techno-nifty and shiny," Buffy said, slipping the ring onto her forefinger, where she was prone to wear her rings. "Thanks."

"You're quite welcome," Jeka said. "Don't hesitate to ask me if you have trouble with the omnicoms."

She was hardly going to suggest that anyone ask Brainy for help in that sort of situation.

Buffy looked at the green man and back at Jeka. "Yeah. No, yeah, I definitely will...Jeka, right?"

"Indeed," Jeka said. "Or Sensor. I answer to both."
