Newbie Meet N' Greet

Meet n' Greet, smell my feet, gimme something good to eat! Unfortunately, the newbie meet and greet takes place the same time the command staff is congregating, so they might be a little late to the party.

But the crew is there to welcome the newcomers and explain their situation. At the end of the milling and spilling about, the command staff is going to start a general meeting to apprise everyone of their situation and discuss their next course of action:

Getting off the damn ship.

Blind offers of help set off alarms for a smuggler that was used to dealing for everything she had. She gave Arha a long look, reaching out carefully to see just what intentions there were. There was no sign of hostility still. "I'm Mara Jade."

"You're quick to offer aid, Arha."

"We are on a ship in the middle of nowhere, taken from our homes, Mara Jade," Arha said, her voice soothing as she let the woman suss her out for as long as she wanted. There would be nothing for her to find but the genuine offer of assistance, should it be needed. That and the warmth of the desert sun that had the feel of the Force around it. Her connection to Luke was buried beyond the bonds of friendship that had been forged. She would not betray him in this, for that was all they were.

"The offer stands true and I would not extend it if I did not mean it." There was protection, too, implied--or at least an eye out, though the woman would probably not need her help. Mara Jade was a capable woman and a Jed-Eye, but still, Arha would offer all she had. As always, the Jed-Eye would have that from her.

"You'll understand if I'm not used to strangers offering assistance without expecting something in return." Mara still looked uncertain, but there was no lie there that she could pick up. For the moment, she would have to accept what Arha said. Even if she didn't entirely understand the reasoning.

"However, I'm not going to turn down a possible ally in a place like this."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"I understand," Arha said softly. "There is danger in accepting too readily without first checking to make sure the offer itself is sound. Your kind is such that shakes hands, yes?" She extended her hand carefully, palm up to show that she had no weapon. Her fixed crysknives were elsewhere, hidden near her Shai-Hulud, and she had not worn them since beginning her Jed-Eye training.

"I shall strive to make myself a worthy ally, then, Mara. Know that I do not take this lightly, for what I give is all I have."

And this had officially unnerved Mara.

"Who. Are. You." Her eyes had narrowed, studying this woman closely. There had to be a reason for this. The wording, the gestures, all of it indicated that there was something going on here. There had to be a reason for this, and Mara intended to know what it was. There was no indication of danger yet, but things were not as they seemed.

"I am Paddyone to Jed-Eye Obi-Wan Kenobi, Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother in my universe, a would-be ally," Arha said calmly. "And I am a friend to your Luke Skywalker." She let out a soft sigh. "Those are titles, alone." She pulled her hand back from where it had hovered.

"Who I am," she murmured, "I am still trying to determine and that shall take me a lifetime of figuring. Do you know who you are, yet, Mara Jade?"

[identity profile] hunters-luck.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not looking for a existential debate. I want to know how you know who I am. It sounds like Skywalker has a big mouth, but that doesn't explain why you're so quick to trust me. Where I'm from, you don't just offer that kind of help to a smuggler you just met, no matter what the references are."

There was a blinding headache starting to set up behind her eyes. None of this made sense, and every time someone answered a question, it lead to more questions and didn't actually answer anything.

"Do you truly wish me to tell you?" Arha asked and then frowned gently--the healer in her wished to fix, she could feel it building. "It would be best if Luke told you if you do not al--" She reached out slow enough so that the woman would see her coming, and sent a careful thread of healing to wipe the threatening headache away. Her fingers barely brushed Mara's temples before they were gone and only the tingling warmth remained. "--ready know."

Her expression was vaguely apologetic.

"You need a clear head, if you are to deal with this ship and the issues you will face."

Have the pain suddenly removed almost canceled out the fact that Arha had just gotten into her personal space. It did manage to keep her from taking offense enough to do something about it, but Mara did take a step back.

"Fine. I'll talk to Skywalker, and he better have some answers for this, or I'm jettisoning him out of an airlock." There were some things she couldn't stand, and being completely out of control like this was one of them. Tagged onto the end, like an afterthought, was, "Thanks."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"He shall have your answers," Arha said as gently as possible and respected the space the woman had put between them as she massaged her tingling fingers. Her eyes snagged Mara's and she tilted her head slightly. "As always, you are welcome." She searched the woman's face for a long moment.

"Remember, Mara Jade," Arha said, letting the warmth of her mind barely brush out to soothe the woman's irritation, "we are, all of us, not in control of this situation." She bowed her head a touch. "If you wish to find me at a later date, the Force will guide you."

Her lips curled in a wry smile.

"I am never hard to find."

[identity profile] hunters-luck.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Having someone so quick to brush against her mind was not helping Mara settle any faster. The smuggler in her did not much care for having everyone check on her emotional state. Was this place crawling with Jedi?

"I'll keep that in mind if I need you, Arha. I have a feeling we'll need to talk again after I question Skywalker."

[identity profile] ladyofthesands.livejournal.com 2009-10-02 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course." Arha simply nodded and between one blink and the next was gone as if she'd never been there in the first place. As she moved away from the crowd of new passengers, she knew she would sink herself into meditation. There would, no doubt, be much to discuss once Luke had finished talking to his wife.

This would play out the way it was supposed to, and she would deal with it as diplomatically as she was able.
