I can take it and I will.

After coming back from interrogation, Katara was more than subdued, and hardly said a word. The fact that she'd not only made the wrong decision and had almost committed a crime of passion was bad enough, but she'd gotten closer to losing who she was again. Aang hadn't been here to make her see how wrong it was, and knowing the only thing that had stopped her was her need to help people was of little comfort. The worse part was she wasn't even sure she'd been able to kill the Yeerk if they had caught up to it: what would she do if Aang needed her? What if it got bad enough that she hesitated and this time she lost him for good?

Exactly how long could she go without having to make that decision?

"I wish I knew," she said softly to herself, hands tucked behind her head, staring at the ceiling. "I really wish I could talk to him about this."

Katara looked up to see who'd arrived, and finally smiled after what was literally hours. She had feeling very alone, and she realized now she wasn't. That had been another stupid thing she'd done, not remembering her brother was here, still looking out for her. If there were ever a time she needed him, it was now.

"Sokka!" She exclaimed. "It's so good to see you! I..." She sighed, looking forlorn. "I really messed up, Sokka. I should have talked to you from the start. I just found out about Aang, and I got scared. You know I was thinking about Hama. I did it because I really wanted to help people. But I was wrong. I'll never do something like that ever again. It was like when Aang wanted to separate from us when he first woke up. But I'll do my time here. I need to remember that people are more important than a threat I don't completely know about."

Sokka smiled and leaned against the door, hands holding onto the lockup's bars.

"I'm glad to hear that, because being the voice of reason is getting old fast. I wanna go back to my sarcasm and idea thing as soon as I can." He grinned that usual grin of his, looking over the bars.

"Hopefully they'll let you out soon, 'cause I think I'm going to go nuts with just Zuko to talk to, especially when he doesn't remember all the awesome stuff we did together."

Katara giggled. "Good! Because I'd definitely rather be "bossy, wet blanket katara" than "I'm depressed in wa wa mode" Katara. So I say that once I'm out, we get back to our roles and salvage our Avatar crew status hmm?"

Because she really did miss that. If only Aang and Toph were here.

"Oh, that's just UGH! I don't want to act all mean to him all over again! Do you have any idea how much effort it took the last time? It's way more fun to poke fun at his serious fire nation man persona when we get along!"

"Definitely! We have a ship to explore and an Avatar to find. It'll be just like old times. Except with a creepy living ship that travels between stars instead of the Fire Nation." He smiled, but he couldn't help but roll his eyes. This place is creepy.

"Oh yeah, for sure. I do that anyway, and I think I'm getting him to open up a bit. But we'll have to work on it. I'm sure things will get better once we find Aang."

Katara nodded. "If you really want to find out some interesting stuff, check out the Media Library or the City! There are a lot of really cool things to do on the ship Sokka! And the people are, wow! All these need superpowers and interesting traditions...trust me, its really fascinating!"

At the mention of Aang, she looked a little saddened. "We have to find Aang. I told Leon about it, and he might look into it too. But I know we'll make that a definite. Have you found out anything about Aang at all with Zuko?"

"I'll do that. I've been the city a bit, but I haven't checked out the media library thing. I wonder if they have anything about swords?" He glanced down as Katara talked about Aang, then shrugged. Should he tell her? Maybe better to wait until she was out of the jail. If he told her now, she'd probably want to bust out and go look for him herself.

"Ah...nothing too definite yet. But I'll let you know as soon as we find something!"

"Sokka, they have libraries on about a million different kinds of weapons. I'm pretty sure you'll find something out about swords!" To be truthful, that was reason Katara was a little mad at herself for getting imprisoned: she couldn't read anything, she couldn't see anyone unless they saw her, and honestly she had nothing but her own self loathing to think about. But she said she'd do her time for her mistake, and she would.

"Thanks Sokka," Katara said, crossing her arms and laying her head on them. "I don't think I like sleeping anymore. I just keep dreaming about our old gang: you, me, Aang, Toph, Zuko. Don't you miss how we all were?"

"Oooh. Maybe I can find a manual on my sword. Oh, man, that'd awesome!" He grinned ear to ear, thinking of all the amazing things he could find out about in the media library. Maybe this place wasn't so bad after all. Even if it lacked meat.

"Ah...yeah, I do. But...those were some bad times too, you know. We were always on the run, we didn't know where we were gonna sleep or how we were gonna eat. But...yeah. I do miss it."

Katara shrugged. "Why not Sokka? I'm sure you'd be able to learn a lot."

Katara was quiet a moment. "Of course there were a few bad times. Who wouldn't have them? We were on our own. But come on, who wouldn't do that?"

"Of course I could. I'm me." And oh so modest, too.

"Yeah. I mean, we just did what we had to do, right? I'm sure anyone else in our situation would have done the same thing, right?" Right. Because everyone would be dumb enough to go off on a world saving quest.

Katara had to roll her eyes at that. She;d forgotten his occasional ego stroking. She also missed it, but was not likely to let herself admit it.

"Maybe, or maybe it was destiny. I mean come on: WE find the Avatar, we get trained to become ultra strong kids, we meet up with Toph and THEN the guy that's been chasing us suddenly joins us? I don't know Sokka: I wonder if we were meant to do it. Think of all the superheroes you've seen on the ship: is it that big a stretch to say that maybe we're a little like them in what we had to do?"

"Yeah, I mean...maybe. Or is it just that we were all part of Aang's destiny and got caught up in it? Anybody could have found him, but it was us." He shrugged. Looking back on it, it was hard to believe he'd been so cautious and against doing anything. But he'd had a responsibility then, to protect the tribe and to protect Katara. At least here he still had one of those...

"We can find him again. I know we will." He smiled, putting on a brave face.

"I don't know if its that," Katara said. "I think we had a reason for going with him too. Even now, we're on this ship, and he is too, somewhere. Even Zuko is here! I don;t knwo why he's here wiyhout remembering us, but he is, and I think that has to mean something. Now we get to befriend him without that mistrust we had before: we know that we can depend on him in a rough spot."

At the mention of aang, Katara's face went from its passive look to one more determined. "Yes. We will."
