why can't slashy read? [closed]

There were many things Yuri was too young for that she'd been forced into. Being a teacher was only the latest in a string that had started when she'd put the Borg on for the first time.

She felt a dry tongue, moist hands as she waited for Red Snout. These reactions never went away. She thought they would after a while, in the same way it had taken her years to get used to Borg's presence. No. Her heart rate always refused to calm down.

What was worse was that she felt as if the creature could somehow sense it. He would take big sniffs of her sometimes and she always felt as if she were giving something away.

Still there was a small consolation. He was learning. She'd introduced him to katakana and surprisingly the Velociraptor had found that the sudden facility extended out so he was equally clumsy in all languages. It was probably the same mechanism that let her read stuff in English like it was her first language.

Currently she waited in an unused conference room, children's primers spread out in front of her on the table white and knobby as bone.

Red Snout was, as usual, punctual. He arrived, making sure the conference room was closed behind him after entering. The lessons were both enlightening and frustrating. He was learning, yes, but not as fast as he liked and a good deal of even the children's words eluded him, despite his practice in his off time. Damned humans and their complicated things. Well...maybe not all of them. Their guns were useful after all. And Yuri was a useful instructor, even if she was far too timid for her own good.

The raptor headed over to the table, leaning over the assembled materials.

"Hello, little Yuri." He grinned that raptor grin of his, sharp, yellowed teeth uncomfortably visible for a moment.

"What are we working on today?" He spoke to her with an almost mock reverence bordering on teasing, but it had a hint of real respect buried deep within. She knew how to read and he didn't, after all. But he would surpass her eventually, he was sure of it.

He taps a foreclaw against his muzzle, taking a minute or so to decipher the reading lettering on the book. Huh.

"Since when are eggs green? And what is 'ham'?"

"Hmmm." He settles down again, tapping foreclaws on the table. "Very well. If it is meat, that is acceptable." Red Snout can deal with that, really.

Perhaps. It reminds him that he has to eat that horrible mush, which always makes him irritable.

"Yes, yes. Begin! I wish to learn."

Red Snout squints, focusing on the words in front of him. Hn.

"Wold you l...leek green eggs and ham..." He manages the first sentence, frowning. "That does not sound correct."
