At a Loss (Open)

It had taken Nanoha some time to explore the ship, and she still hadn't managed to see everything - or even close to everything. Still, she managed to find a bit of seclusion - an untraversed little corridor - where she could communicate with her Intelligent Device at length and find out just what powers she had available to her.

"Raising Heart," she said quietly to the red jewel she held in her hands. "Activate Barrier Jacket."

And the jewel spoke, in a synthetic-sounding female voice: "I can call only the base forms, my Master. Barrier Jacket - Sacred Mode, unavailable. Aggressor Mode, unavailable. Exceed Mode, unavailable.

Excelion Form, unavailable. Exceed Form, unavailable. Blaster System, unavailable. Axel Fin, Unavailable."

Still, she wasn't about to give up entirely. "Axel Fin, huh? But what about the Flier?" In response, the device spoke again: "I can call it, my Master: Flier Fin!" In the next moment, two small magenta wings sprouted from Nanoha's ankles, lifting her a foot or two off the floor. Well, it wasn't much, but it was at least something.

So yes, anyone who happened to come by would see a girl talking to a piece of jewelry, hovering off the floor. Nothing strange at all about that, right?

"Okaay, what's up? Besides you I mean."

Nanoha turned around at the boy's voice, a bit startled - and the wings on her ankles faded, lowering her to the ground. "Ah, I'm sorry. I was just checking to see which of my abilities I can still use here. Was I in the way of something?"

Come to think of it, something about him felt strange. It wasn't like he was a mage, but...

"Nah, just curious. Don't we think we talked at the meeting. I'm Danny."

She smiled at him. "I'm Nanoha. It's nice to meet you, Danny."

"Soo, what's you're whole special skill-set thing?"

"Oh, I'm a mage - I'm an instructor of magical combat for the organization I work for." Nanoha tilted her head to the side. "And you?"

"Half-ghost. And yes that's possible, but I never really figured out the technical reasons for it."

"Oh. I've... never met a half-ghost before." Nanoha blinked. "But I'll take your word for it, then!" That would also explain why he felt so strange.

"Considering there's only three, and we all come from my world? Not surprising."

"Can I ask how that happened? If there are only three of you, it must be pretty rare."

"Me and the evil creep who both looks like and shares a first name with Dracula? Got exposed to ghostly energy from an opening ghost portal. And then Vlad tried to clone me, kept screwing up, and one of the clones ended up female and that's how Dani came to be."

Another blink. Nanoha's seen a lot, but this is ... stranger than what she's used to. A bit, anyway. "...oh. That must have been annoying, to have somebody trying to clone you all the time."

"I figure he stopped that when Dani decided she liked me better."

Nanoha smiled at that. "So was she meant to be your enemy? ...then it's good you made her your friend. She's probably glad for that, too."

She might notice a man nearby, just sort of... staring. Well. How interesting. And by interesting, it was probably closer to 'somewhat terrifying'. He's just... going to try and ignore her. It must just be another type of hallucination. Yes, that's it.

And notice she did - Nanoha turned to face the man, the wings fading as she lowered to the ground. "Oh, I'm sorry. Was I in your way?"

"Er. No. Not at all." Might as well treat his hallucinations politely. "I couldn't help but notice that you were... floating, however."

She nodded. "Yes, I was - it's a spell called Flier Fin." And in response to her words, the jewel spoke again: "Flier Fin."

Once more, the magenta wings sprung into being, lifting her off the ground in demonstration. "...is there a problem with it?"

"Despite the fact that it defies most known laws of physics, no, none at all." Oh so much sarcasm. It's just Edgeworth's way of dealing with all his brain broken-ness.

Nanoha picked up on the sarcasm, but opted not to say anything. "Well... it is magic. It has its own laws and rules, for the most part."

"Magic. Of course. I suppose the same explanation could be used for everything I've been seeing lately." He was speaking partially to himself, and partially to the young lady who may or may not actually exist.
