There are a number of reasons Kazuki finds himself heading down to the Med-bay.
Perhaps the most important is that being blind is damned inconvenient, especially in a situation like this. Kazuki has always felt it important to be useful, and being unused to his current handicap, feels that there isn't much for him to do unless he gets it fixed.
To a lesser extent, however, he's noticed that the people he's mentioned his condition to often treat him with a vague sense of pity, which also makes him uncomfortable. He's not ungrateful for the concern, but he's far more used to worrying about other people's problems then his own.
Whatever his reasons, Kazuki is currently heading down the hall, led by the hand by one of Stacy's tentacles.
||You have arrived at your destination,|| Stacy's voice says as he reaches the door to the Med-bay, and the tentacle retracts into the wall.
"Hello?" Kazuki calls into the room, gripping the doorway with a hand for support. "Could someone help me?"

"Are you Dr. Grey?" he asked.

"Can I do something for you?"

"Ah, good. We talked on the Omnicom a little while back. I'm Kazuki Makabe, the one with the condition known as Assimilation Phenomenon."

"Thirty years ago, my world was invaded by a hive-mind race of aliens called the Festum, who have the ability to assimilate living creatures into themselves. In order to fight the Festum, a series of mecha known as Fafners were developed which incorporated the substance Fenrir, which was what the Festum used to assimilate people. All of the children on my home island, including myself, were also genetically modified using the Fenrir in order to be able to pilot the Fafners properly."
He pauses, looking somewhat more serious.
"The only problem is that the more you pilot a Fafner, the more the Fenrir in your body reacts, causing it to crystallize on a microscopic level, starting with the nervous system."
Kazuki motions to his eyes.
"Hence why I can't see at the moment. There's a temporary treatment, which Stacy said was on hand here in the Med-lab. There's also a full blown cure, but that would completely remove my ability to pilot Fafners, and I don't think I want to do that in a situation like this."
...Believe it or not, that's the short story.
