Outer Space SUCKS! [immediately after meeting Kara] (Open)

"I need a bar, a good old-fashioned bar, none of this sports enthusiast or micro-brewery or house music crap. Two pool tables, a dartboard, a jukebox, and I need good liquor." Owen mumbled as he shuffled his way into the sensorium, the scenery complying as he walked behind the bar and looked over the selection.

At least this damn place could get drinks right, even if it's timing to pull people from his world sucked hard.

"Outer space SUCKS." He put a glass down firmly on the bar as he poured himself some whiskey. After knocking back the first drink, he proclaimed it a bit louder, and a bit different. "OUTER SPACE TOTALLY BLOWS!"

"Space only blows if there's a particle wind involved," Meluly interrupts after a long moment.

She'd heard that shout from way out in the hall connecting Sensorium pods, and couldn't help but investigate.

Luly gives a minute for that to percolate as she steps inside, mildly adjusting the way the red wrap she wears hangs on her shoulders. The bar's not bad--doesn't quite compare to the officer's pool she's used to, but, then, little does, particularly with how well her homeland treats its star pilots.

As she gets a rough idea of what Owen means by the 'my girl' part of the comment, she makes an 'eugh' face. "Who's your girl?" she asks lightly, leaning over the bar to peer behind it. (This does nice things to her legs, even bare only from just above the knees.)

Well, see? More narration can never hurt, especially when it focuses on the attratcive qualities of an exotic woman like Meluly.

She fishes herself a glass, pouring a shot from the bottle. "That's quite the description." She didn't actually realize that as a proper (nick)name.

The woman shakes her head. "Can't say I ever heard of them. Sounds kind of overblown for a callsign or something, though..." This from a woman with a mech named after an apocryphal angel. She downs the shot, eyes twisting in a funny way. (Too long without proper exposure to alcohol.)

She's got an interesting tinge of an accent. A little Indian-sounding, almost.

Passing by, Luke heard yelling from one of the Sensoriums, and turned aside from his path to investigate. It seemed a little odd to invade someone else's construct, but he wanted to make sure there wasn't any trouble and someone wasn't getting hurt.

"What's wrong with space?" he asked.

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke leaned against the bar, wondering idly if they'd serve drinks from his world. He didn't think so, and in any case, he wouldn't really have sipped from it anyway. The last time he had anything to drink... well, it was a long time ago.

"She probably didn't think she'd ever see you again," he said. "I'm sorry, though."

[identity profile] restoresbalance.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke nodded, mostly comprehending. "Well, do you think moping about in bars is going to help you?" he said. "It's all right to be upset, but it won't get you very far, will it?" Still, he reached out and touched Owen on the shoulder, smiling. "Must be difficult though."

"Space isn't all that bad..." He had heard the grumbling as he wondered towards the sensoriums, and his curiosity had gotten the better of him. He didn't really get why someone would be upset about this place.

"Sure there's a lack for things to do, and some of my friends are missing. Not to mention my brother. But look around, this place can be anything you want. Or anyone." He smiled a bit. "Even if that last part's a bit creepy, and I don't recommend doing it when people can just walk in."

[identity profile] madebymagic.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"No thank you. I can make my own drink if I needed it." He really didn't want to know what the meatship made the drinks out of. And he was hoping no one noticed him not eating with everyone else. That was the last thing he really needed.

"So why the bar scene? If you don't mind me asking."

[identity profile] madebymagic.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Isn't it always?" He shook his head and took a seat at the bar. "That's why I stick to guys. Less headaches."

Now Katara, who was getting used to outer space, was very much NOT used to different slang. Things "sucking" or "blowing" as an exclamation tended to mystify her, and she was curious. The Sensorium was occupied, and though Katara respected people's privacy (mostly). she also recalled how many times she'd been interrupted when she was in the Sensorium. The plain fact was this was a ship full of people, and privacy only really translated to less people getting in your face than usual.

So when she stepped through the door she was pleased to see something that looked familiar in certain aspects. It was definitely a bar, and the guy there was definitely someone she'd seen talking with Sokka before. His name was...Owen, wasn't it?

"Ok...what does that mean, Outer Space sucks?" Katara asked, eyeing the drink in his hand. "And if you tell me I'm not allowed here because I'm a kid and underage, I'm just going to roll my eyes and still expect an answer, ok?"

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
At the mention of the failure to place people in relation to tie, Katara sighed in pure agreement. "You're telling me! There are two friends of mine pulled out from my world, but at a time where we were enemies! Do you have any idea how hard it is to explain to someone that used to fight you 'oh, but we're friends later, we have a history?' As if things weren't hard enough to understand on this ship!"

Katara exhaled. The 'sweetness' comment might have bothered her at an earlier point in time, but seeing as how a certain earthbender was known for using something like that phrase, Katara grinned. "Yeah, I am. I'm assuming you guys must have connected if you know that. Sokka's still freaking out a little."

[identity profile] kaya-waterwave.livejournal.com 2009-08-21 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
"If you knew I was his sister of course," Katara said, eying the game. It was certainly not something she'd seen before. She'd have to watch and see how it was played. Though hearing what he said about losing a friend was bad, and the next sentence definitely hit home.

"Wow...really? That is horrible. No wonder you're drinking. I don't know how much you like this girl, but it still must hurt to have someone you care about not know you, let alone be with somebody else. If that happened to me..."

Katara trailed off. The thought really bothered her, and she had nothing but sympathy for him now. All the time you invest in a person you care about dashed out the window. The thought really bothered her.

"I can sympathize," Katara said. "More than anything, there's a person I want to see here who's special to me. If he cared about someone else...

"What's her name?"
