Just as he suspected. There really wasn't much to do, even on a giant crazy spaceship like this one. There was a media library, but you could only watch movies for so long before you remembered that you were on a giant crazy spaceship and it was stupid to be watching movies.
That's what made Steve go check out the sensoriums, if only so he could work off a little steam on some kind of training course. That seemed like a popular option. Thinking on it too much had made him ask if it could create the images of people, too, and since then he'd been trying to decide how creepy it would be to go see virtual versions of his parents. Whether it would be more therapeutic than necessitating therapy afterwards was still up in the air.
He wandered the halls glumly, trying to get his mind off of it and forlornly thinking how nice it would be if somebody he knew was somehow aboard too.
He did not expect to get his wish thirty seconds later, when somebody walked by and he immediately recognized her.
"Wait... Claire?"

"There's a handful of people who'll fall in easily enough, mostly the career soldiers and cops; the professionals. But the bulk of the crew is used to doing things their own way and by their own rules, the teenagers in particular. They probably aren't going to get it through thick heads that no one can do it on their own until they get smacked down by whatever is waiting for us." Which would result in a whole mess of needless casualties before people started acting right.

"Not the word I'd use." His thoughts on this were far more colorful.
"Hopefully the Chief can knock some sense in everyone else; whip'em into shape by the time we're ready to make our move."

"We'll see what the doctors can do for him." But there was something in his expression as he looked at her that told her not to expect miracles.

"This is so fucked up." She'd come to terms with what had happened to Steve years ago. But him being here now was reopening the part of her that had never completely stopped blaming herself for his infection and death.

"Are you gonna be able to handle this?"

"Yeah," she replied, holding a hand up to her forehead. "I promised him I wouldn't let him hurt anyone. And if he ends up changing into that monster again I don't know if he'll be able to come back from it."

"Thanks," she said quietly, squeezing his fingers. She knew she was lucky to have a friend like Leon on this ship. And she knew she probably would've had trouble dealing with this situation herself. That had been another reason she'd brought it to Leon first.
