Ian nodded. "Is there a treat you can offer him?" he wondered, still thinking about cats, mainly. "If he is here that would bring him out."

But it was a big ship and who knows where a monkey might be. "I'll help you look," he offered. "If he's not here then we can work through places where lots of other people are and places he liked to go."

Awkward. It was too awkward to tell a stranger a superintelligent monkey was your first friend. Why had he almost told a stranger that? His emotional control was clearly still not the best after everything that had happened to him.
