Maxine is a little unsure about this-- but it's the only real option they have, she figures. They need to see if they can get something out, at least. Or, maybe figure out what happened here. That could help them figure out where to go from there...

It's just also eerie and unnerving, especially given all that had happened. She hopes they figure it out fast.
