Green Is So Last Season [Open!]

Ever since Rarity popped, there was one thing on the ship which irked her most. The hideous colour of the plant suits. She disliked green a lot and she vowed to change the garment's colours. She had a handful of plant suits laid out on the table in front of her and she levitated one, eyeing the material and poking it with her hoof.

"I didn't know you could make clothes from this kind of material... Let's see what you're made of so I can change your colour."

It did appear to others that the unicorn was talking to an inanimate object.
 

((OOC: The mods have granted me permission to change the colour of the plantsuits for variety! Your characters can wear their favourite colours now, I guess? =D))

Mindy laughed a little. "Well, I dunno how good I am with the color palette, but how are you gonna do that anyway? Can you actually change that?"

"I have done so on fabrics back home but I've never worked with this sort of material before." Rarity demonstrated with a piece of cloth hanging on a rack, effortlessly changing it from yellow to red.

"Yeah, I know what you mean," Mindy said. "Except...wait, how did you do that?"

[whining_unicorn]

"With unicorn magic, of course." Rarity's horn glowed blue as she levitated the red cloth and brought it close to them, changing it to orange along the way.

Magic. Of course it was magic.

"And you can't just use it to turn the color of the plantsuits?"

[whining_unicorn]

"I would do it in a heartbeat my dear, but it appears the plant suit isn't made of cloth." Rarity returned the orange cloth back to where it belonged and focused her concentration on the plant suit. She could attempt to change just the external surface of the suit.

Magic swirled around the suit as Rarity willed the outfit to turn orange. It kept flickering between orange and green. She was so close! The colour slowly spread through the suit and it turned orange. "Yes!"

It appeared that the unicorn spoke too soon, the plant suit quickly faded back to green and the white pony was not pleased at all. "Who makes suits out of leaves?!"

Mindy had to admit, of all the ponies he'd met, this fussy, clothing obsessed one was really interesting in regards to actually making clothes. Of course she had liked Rein tons, but in her experience people who cared this much about clothes really cared about them.

Not that Rein didn't, of course. No way she would ever have downplayed the awesomeness of her barrier jacket.

"Beats me," she said, staring at the plantsuit. "Maybe it needs to be changed color outside of magical means?"

"Hmm..." Rarity muttered to herself. "Colour. What gives plants and flowers colour?"

The white pony paced up and down the table, struggling to find the answer.

Mindy was a little speechless at the question. What gave them color? Didn't they just already have color? Like, didn't plants just produce it on their own or something?

"I dunno. Dyes, maybe, for clothes?"

[whining_unicorn]

"I've used flower dyes but not plant dyes. I didn't know you could use plant dyes, that is fascinating." Rarity levitated the suit for a closer look, horn glowing as she investigated the inner workings of a leaf.

She gasped as her magic sensed a green spot in each leaf. "Are you aware that leaves have green pigments in them?"

"Chlorophyll?" Mindy suggested. "It's been awhile since I've been in an actual class in school."

As in never, actually. She'd been interrupted from that quite awhile back.

"I think its supposed to be their food or something?"

[whining_unicorn]

"Ooo, you're right! That's brilliant!" Rarity changed the colour of the chlorophyll to purple and the suit gradually shifted to a lovely lavender hue.

"Thank you, so much! How about I make you an outfit as a token of thanks?"

Thank goodness for her reading up on all the shit she didn't get to learn in a typical classroom. Really, if she wasn't trying to fight in a war to end all wars she might actually have attended a class or two.

As for outfits...she couldn't well ask her to improve the barrier jacket. That was specially made, and really? Perfect in its way. No, what she wanted was something different.

"Yeah. I think I'd like a dress."
