trans_9 | What is Love? [Valentine's Date Event]

It's shaping up to be another average day on the Transmigration 9. Crew members are going about their business as usual and all is (to most appearances, at least) about as "well" as things ever are on the ship.

Some crew members are going to be stopped out of the blue by impact with a force field.

"Attention Crewmen: You have been chosen to participate in an experiment!" GLaDOS's voice informs. They're not alone, someone else that was nearby is also caught within the same narrow radius. "Participation is mandatory. Please try to relax and enjoy the experience, as this will improve the quality of the test results."

Clearly this is going to be a wonderful day for science.

"You and your new scientific partner are now on a date," GLaDOS goes on. "As it would be detrimental to our study of the date experience if you were to be separated, you must remain close to your partner for the duration of the experiment. This will be enforced with the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field. Prolonged exposure to the Transmigration 9 Crewman Containment Field may have unexpected side-effects. While any side-effects encountered will be documented and your desire to offer yourself to science is commendable, it is not a necessary part of this experiment."

"You will be informed when the test has been completed. We would like to thank you in advance for your full cooperation in the experiment and failure to attempt to foil it in any way."

"The experiment has begun, so you may begin dating."

[OOC: The exact details of your characters' confinement are up to players' discretion. Being trapped in a sensorium or other stationary place is a possibility, as is being stuck in a sort of roving invisible force field hamster ball that only affects the two of you. How far partners can move apart is probably subject to whatever's fun but they ideally shouldn't be able to sit on opposite sides of a room ignoring one another the whole time.

ICly the "test" lasts for a few hours and you are free to godmode GLaDOS telling them the experiment is finished.

"So you're just a big jerk for no reason." The pony rolled her eyes. "Terrific. All the people on this ship and I get trapped with a female version of Price Blueblood."

"Having been stuck with a human for three days, I can say I have been in worse situations." Reaching back, she flipped up the hood on her cloak and prepared herself for the long haul.

"You may take that as a compliment if you wish."

"What have you got against other people, anyway?"

Sure, this whole experience would be a lot easier if Rainbow just stopped talking and rode it out, but staying quiet and inactive like that was entirely out of the question for THIS blue pony.

"You would hardly understand so there is no reason explaining it." Even though it was easily taken personally, it wasn't exactly personal. She spent centuries away from Eldar society because she chaffed in groups.

"Try anyway. Otherwise I'm gonna go crazy being trapped in here." She planted her forelegs, then arched back to kick the forcefield hard -- and ineffectually, of course. She made another frustrated noise.

It might be wise to talk to her just to keep her busy. Rainbow Dash was NOT a patient pony.

There was no point in giving the long story. Alendian was quite aware of how much it might seem like a sob story and would prefer to have others spare the pity. Instead, she focused on blocking out the noise in her mind while she explained.

"I live in a galaxy where all others try to kill my race. That is enough of a good reason for my dislike to me."

"....I guess I can see why that'd make you a bit cranky," she admitted after a moment. "But why? I mean, what'd you do that everyone wants a piece of that?"

"That is the true nature of the universe." She leaned back a bit and stretched her legs out. "It has been that way since the beginning of time."

"You must live in a pretty bad universe," she said glumly. "But," she continued, pointing a hoof again, "this isn't it. If you judge everypony where you ARE by how people treated you where you WERE, you're just setting yourself up for making it all true. I mean, I sure don't care who your people are or that everypony else wants to attack them..."

She had to snort. "First of all, I am not a pony nor am I of equine descent. Secondly, is this some attempt at making me 'see the light' and try to change my attitude? I have very few friends, even among my own people so try not to waste your time trying to make one out of me."

If there was one thing you could say about her, it was that she was stubborn.

Rainbow waved her hoof dismissively. "Naw. You'll change if you want to. I'm just saying you're not being fair, even if you have a reason. We're all on this ship together, right?"

"Are we all together?" Too much optimism in here for her tastes. "Do you even know what my goals are?"

"Uh, I'd assume it's the general one? You know, beat the bad guys who are responsible for everything?" Rainbow couldn't even conceive of someone NOT wanting to do that. "Survive this ship? Not go crazy while doing so? Get out of this trap?" she added, kicking at the force field with a back hoof again.

"This trap means little to me. It will shut off at some point." But she had shook her head at the rest.

"The only thing I care about is the survival of my species. Everything else comes later."

"Call me crazy, but aren't the bug creatures that wipe out worlds probably a pretty big threat to your people?" Rainbow said.

"Humans do the same on a frequent basis." Sad but true for her universe.

"If you're not dead yet, the ones on the ship aren't trying it, are they?"
