Stupid cloud! Stupid ship! Stupid laws of physics!

Three attempts in and this had not been going well.

Outside the transport tubes in the city hovered one pegasus pony, staring in irritation at said tubes. One hoof rested on what was unmistakably a cloud -- a puffy, friendly-looking white cloud, just the right size to make a comfy napping spot for a pegasus who, well, really liked napping.

"You stupid tube tentacle... things!" she said, expecting that the ship would somehow respond. "Let me take the cloud up to that Hydro-whatsit place!"

Applejack didn't tend to visit the City very often. She much preferred the wider open spaces of Hydroponics, but she liked to visit the trees and plants down here sometimes. There were animals, too, and they needed tending. She liked to help with that.

What she didn't usually see was a cloud this close to the ground, with one familiar pony attempting to push it.

"Er...what're you doing with that cloud? Shouldn't it be up there?" she asked, glancing up at the sky.

"I'm TRYING to take it up to Hydrowhatsits!" she snapped, shoving the cloud angrily with a hoof. "But every time I try to get it through these tunnels, the ship messes it up! And there's no other way to get there, so I can't even take it the long way. How's a pony supposed to get a place to sleep if I can't move this cloud?"

Applejack would much rather skip the hassle and find some other bedding, but she knows Rainbow won't give up until she knows for sure it can't be done.

"The tentacles that move you around just knock it to pieces. The ship can't move clouds like a pegasus, I guess."

Sure, Applejack would like that, but Applejack can't sleep on a cloud. She didn't know what it was like. Sure, tree branches were all right for naps, but for sleeping the night away, nothing beat a good cloud.

At least she wasn't trying to construct an entire new house for herself. Even Rainbow Dash was willing to make a compromise... or just be lazy enough not to go that far, either or.

"So you were trying to tell 'em to kick like one? And they didn't listen?"

Applejack wondered. That was a shame. If not, another bedding would have to be found, and she needed time to think.

"I don't think they even understand. It's like this ship has no way to move clouds around at all!"

She dropped down from the cloud, which obligingly stayed put, to speak more closely to Applejack. "It's just like they said, it's like the Everfree Forest everywhere. Stuff like this just HAPPENS, but I can't wait for a cloud to just HAPPEN to show up where I want it. It'd probably just HAPPEN to disappear, too!"

Applejack can understand the frustration at not having a familiar place to sleep. Hey, she felt it herself her first few days. But this just won't work, right?

"I don't have any -- hey!" Rainbow Dash immediately perked up. "Can I borrow your lasso?!"

Not that she could use it for its intended purpose, but for roping a cloud, she could manage!

"Uh...sure," she said, a little reluctant. "Just let me tie it if you have any trouble."

She tossed it at Rainbow Dash's mouth, hoping for the best. If that good lasso disappears, someone's going to be very unhappy.

"What's up, homegirl? You got a cloud up in your bean?" Punchy laughs at his own joke, which is, sadly, a wordplay on slang no one on Earth has ever used, and therefore only hilarious to him. But oh, it is quite hilarious, and since he now consider Rainbow Dash a bro of sorts, he expects she'll laugh too.

"Now now~ Calling it names surely won't make it cooperate any better you know. Try being nice to it, maybe that'll loosen it up~"

An amused voice echoed in a whisper from the shadows and soon enough a familiar girl with nine tails fanning behind her appeared from one of the alleys closest to the transport tubes.

Rarity was passing by when she heard the familiar frustrated voice from the only pegasus on the ship.

"Rainbow Dash, are you alright up there?" She called out, squinting her eyes a bit to look at the rainbow pony.

She caught it, then zipped around the cloud in broad circles, tying it up into one compact ball. With that all done, she tugged it down to Applejack, one end of the lasso still clutched in her teeth and the other between her two hooves.

"Loan me a hoof!" she said around the rope.

Not quite a laugh, but she smiled in amusement. "Turns out this ship can't move a cloud the way it moves a pony. I gotta get this thing somewhere I can actually sleep. Which ISN'T this place," Rainbow said, pointing at the City irritatedly.

She crossed her forelegs in anger, glaring at the tube like it would back down if she just intimidated it enough.

"You tried standing on it?" Since Punchy's assuming he'd probably sink through it, given that it's a cloud and all. "Maybe if you stand on top of it and I try to come up from under it, it'll get squeezed between us and pop up top."

"I'm TRYING to get this cloud up to the Hydro, Hydro...ponics? Yeah." She whacked the cloud with a hoof, and perhaps surprisingly, the cloud rebounded a little as if it were perfectly solid. "I can't sleep down here in this place, it's too... weird."

"You can move clouds too?" But he wasn't a pegasus, or even a pony! And ALL the humans here had been totally freaked out by the idea that ponies could move clouds around and control the weather and stuff!

< Is that a cloud? > There's a fluttering of wings as Tobias came to an abrupt stop by the transports tubes, wings flapping. There was now a falcon doing its level best to hover next to Rainbow Dash, but he's not really designed for it.

< And I've never seen a pegasus before. Not in person, anyway. >

"Wow, even falcons talk around here," she said. Yeah, you envy that hovering action, Tobias, especially as the pony moved around to examine the falcon curiously. "Yeah, that's a cloud, I'm trying to move it to where I want to sleep!"

"Are you kidding? I could fly to Canterlot and back faster than I could fly around this ship, and nopony flies faster than me. It's just too big!" And she seemed very offended by this fact.
