There's a sudden thump downstairs, and the sound of something crashing - pots and pans in the kitchen, maybe. A few more clangs and scratching noises follow, as well as the sound of snuffling.

From the stairs, only a little past the closed bedroom door, there's the sound of something heavy and wet being dragged.
