Maxine and the Master end up hitting the ground in the courtyard of an abandoned church. A thick layer of dried, yellowed grass breaks their fall. The church itself is in a state of considerable disrepair; the steeple leans to the side like some frail person favoring a leg. What might have been a garden is now only withered and trampled flowers. The stained glass windows that might have once been glorious are now busted in.
Once Maxine and the Master have a chance to get their bearings, they might notice that one of the doors to the chapel is resting ajar, and a slick, slight trail of grease leads in.
