Sobeks eyes slid to Vala, then down to the makeshift bandage she'd wrapped herself in, but the God said nothing as he swept past. The Jaffa planted the staff weapons in the ground, and stood as sentinels blocking the way back to the Al'kesh. Vala was left standing slightly ahead of them.

More of his Children came trailing into the crowd that had gathered and like the others, prostrated themselves. One man came out, carrying on him the most beads and trophies around his wrist and neck that announced him the village leader, and seeing the God, pushed himself to the front line of the group, falling to his knees. Unlike in the throne room and around the main complexes, there was no droning. No singing or chanting. The muffled whispers died in the hot air. The only sound was the rustle of breeze against grass and water from the lake.

The System Lord stepped out alone. He crossed the plains unhurried, and compared to the drab colors of the settlement and its clothing, the people's bearing, looked like something out of a forgotten legend.

He finally came to a stop before the chieftain. Sobek put his hand on the man's shoulder. The man started to look up but balked, unwilling to put his eyes on something so far above him. In response, the Crocodile God cupped his chin and firmly tilted his head up. From where Vala stood, it seemed like the Goa'uld was speaking to him softly, smiling a little as if he was asking for a favor from a colleague. The man blinked, paled, but then stood and scurried off.

Minutes later, several of the villagers were selected from the crowd and brought in front of their God. Sobek glanced over at Vala and caught her eye.
