Sobek smiled at her, a touch of fondness coloring the expression, in the way one grudgingly admires an animal that suddenly showed some spark of intelligence and the brief, pleasant surprise that came with. She, out of the others, was at least a quick study, and had taken her lessons to heart, taken her first command - heal the others - and performed it without question. And now she was, in her own fashion, asking what she could do now?

Vala pleased him greatly. It would almost be a shame to use her his next vessel, when she had the promise to be a perfect lo'taur. She already felt something for his host, which ensured a certain amount of loyalty and care. Given training, of course. The thought tempted him for a moment. If the files and her own memories were anything to believe, she had the fighting experience to make herself useful next to him on the field of combat and could be trained further. He let himself consider the possibilities even further. Sobek's eyes pinned her down, this time too reptilian to read what was going on underneath. He could see her on the battlefield, bloodied and brilliant next to a force of nature, the sight unparalleled, then serving his needs out of combat, the envy of the surviving Goa'uld. She had some willfulness left, but if it could be channeled properly, it wouldn't be a handicap.

No, as tempting as the thought was, he wanted her more as a host. There was no other.

The System Lord reached out and touched her wrist, more whim, some hidden compulsion than anything deliberate. It was a light, feathery brush, as he ran the knife-sharp talon tips over the veins of her inner wrist, blood he could let out in an instant if he desired. He kept the hand with the ribbon device out of reach.

"You're worth more to your God as servant than rotting in a cell," Sobek said, as if coming to a decision. His voice gentled. "You needn't suffer so."
