The eyes that traced up and down her remained aloof and alien. The smile lifted, a light Daniel smile. "No, I suppose my host and yourself can take credit for that."

Neither of them thought her broken, just judging by how she stood and looked at them. It pleased the God greatly. Not the host he remembered from Quetesh, but he could see that the God would have taken this one without a second thought. Just like Quetesh had on that day on the battlefield, Vala stood her ground against him. Even though the Quetesh he knew had been eventually forced to run or die, eaten alive, she was the only one to have survived a face to face encounter with him. Once Sobek had gotten past the initial rage at his failure to kill her, just like the other Gods, he'd realized it had pleased him that she had managed it in the first place.

Vala really would make an excellent replacement, the host he should have been given first. It would have been disappointing if she'd cracked so easily, but the last time he saw her only confirmed that his current vessel was her major weakness. Despite what Daniel knew of her, Sobek didn't think Vala would leave without him.

"You will make yourself useful."
