The man had prostrated himself like the others in the end, but not before making a show of it, something that indicated he still clung to pride. Sobek didn't completely erase it from his worshipers. There was pride in there, the kind that had them competing for seconds of his attention. It was the pride that was channeled in his favor.

The System Lord made no indication that Smith should get up. The stone underneath their feet was cold and rough, and smelled faintly of moisture and plant life from outside.
"You will attend to whatever your God desires." Sobek said. "Prove yourself useful and live. Prove yourself anything less and your Master will have no use for your existence."
