Panting, Ian ran to the nearest shelter, only to find it was already occupied. Although there was room for two. One of the robot's shots had dislodged a reasonably large piece of metal and he had been using it as a shield. He held it out now, to shield them both from the robot he'd been running from, hoping the metal would withstand the shots and the robot would get bored. Or it wouldn't bother if it couldn't see them.
