River's a very special girl, that much is clear. Still, if she were a true Time Lady, he would be able to recognize any of her regenerations. Yet, there's no way the Doctor could know every single Time Lord and Lady that had ever lived. It must be frustrating. River's half amused, half not-so-amused that this little soul connection thing had put him hot on her trail. Any time the Doctor deems to dwell on her genetics, well that's not something he should even remotely be bothered with. Not until Demon's Run.
Yes, Demon's Run. That key moment when everything would finally fall into place. He might have caught that name from her once or twice. A future adventure, something she was deeply sad about. Still, she could hardly prevent her own kidnapping. That would be altering her time line too far. Who knows what could have happened? She could have grown up with the Doctor as her Godfather for all anyone knew and wouldn't that just be terribly awkward?
She knew he felt alone. Felt the weight of his years. That's why he sought out companions. Usually humans because humans were so caught up in the moment. So intent on living life to the fullest in their tiny flicker of a life span that it would be hard to dwell on the harsh reality that he was ultimately alone.
Not so. River liked to think she had changed that, just a little. Oh, all things have to end eventually, even River Song with her elongated life span can't live forever, but maybe, just maybe, she'd made an impact on him.
After a long suffering moment of silence, River's mind flashes towards the top of a pyramid. The air around them wrong, so wrong. Time dying, time running out and their hands being bound by his bowtie. Entwined by more then just thread, but by fate itself. It's a tiny glimpse, something she can't shield from him, not this close. She does, however, manage to shut down that memory. Maybe he could see Amy and Rory standing nearby, solemn and in awe.
Oh, what do you think? I know your name. That's not something you give out lightly. It's not exactly a yes, but it's definitely not a no. Not with that tiny glimpse of a hurried ceremony. You're not exactly the marrying type, after all. Neither was River, not until she'd met him. There were so many stories, so many theories about the two of them. Back then she'd done a lot of research on the woman she would become.
I need to get out of your body soon. She was getting tired. His presence was definitely wearing her down. Her shields were sloppy and flimsy by now. Able to be knocked down with the slightest touch, should he dare. She wasn't physically hurt by his consciousness, just exhausted. It didn't help that the shared dreams had kept her from sleeping soundly.

We need to figure this out.
