[open] wide open spaces

Hydroponics was simply amazing.

It was relaxing. That was the best way Aerith could describe it. She was sure there had been plenty before her to make this observation, though. Still, it was comforted her in a way she'd needed. Even if it wasn't the planet, her planet, it still gave her a sense of peace. Despite it being an artificial environment, it was realistic and that in itself was astonishing to her.

Nanaki had mentioned the area before, but seeing it for herself was a different story. It made her forget, just for a moment, about being on a strange ship in the middle of space.

That was a nice feeling. She could see why people would spend a lot of time here.

So she wandered around, absorbing what she could, taking in all that was around her. Aerith didn't have a specific purpose - other than exploring. It certainly was a big place.

Fuu nodded in understanding when Aerith tried to work out the days. "I'm sure the day-night cycle in the City is faster than Earth's," she said. "You could try to keep track of it by when you sleep, but I know there was an experiment once where they found that humans keep a day slightly longer than twenty-four hours when they're isolated from sunlight."

She smiled back, though. "It's very nice to meet you, Miss Aerith. Have you thought about joining any of the departments yet?"

"You are?" Fuu lit up. "I use healing magic too! It's only one spell, but it is very useful. Though I wasn't sure about joining the medical department..." She put her fingers to her lips. Exploring had distracted her as well, truthfully. This ship was so full of strange things. "But it's probably a good idea."

She looked at Aerith more curiously now. "What kind of magic do you use? Is it all healing?"

Materia? Well, Fuu had played video games where mages couldn't do magic without items, but it seemed strange that it would really be that way in some places. "I hope it won't hinder you too much," she said, wondering if Aerith had any fighting skills as well.

But she brightened up. "Your healing abilities are more extensive than mine are! I have a healing spell, but I don't think it would work on disease... although my own magic has been weakened here, too." It still worked, but this wasn't Cephiro and Fuu couldn't just will her magic stronger. "But may I ask what materia is?"

Fuu did count as that curious, but she was also mindful of questioning someone too deeply on the idiosyncracies of their homeworld, particularly someone she'd only just met--she didn't want to spoil Aerith's good mood by forcing her to talk about a place that didn't exist anymore.

Nevertheless... using the energy of living souls to cast magic spells? It sounded rather dark to Fuu. I think I prefer Cephiro's way of learning magic. "It sounds like an amazing technology," was what she said. "The engineers on your world must have been extremely talented. But I think I prefer healing magic as well. I don't like hurting people, even when I don't have a choice."
