"It started as mutual distrust," Cedric started to explain. "Muggles---that's what we call non-magical people---were afraid of our powers. They sought to hire our power. We could enhance crops, increase food supplies...but then they wanted solutions for marital disputes and romance, and it got messy. Fights broke out when certain things turned out to be impossible. Eventually, they started trying to stamp us out. It got so bad that we had to go into hiding, and it's been that way for centuries."

It was sad, he thought, that people couldn't just get along. But human envy worked against them.
