Alanna's eyes lit in recognition at the name. "The smith mage? I met her earlier." And now that she thought about it, Daja had mentioned having a sister here. She'd forgotten the sister's name, but this must be her.
She hardly needed to be told that there was more to a family then blood. Myles was far more her father then the one whose blood she'd shared. It had been Myles who had taught her, encouraged, and who had simply shown her that he cared. Lord Alan of Trebond had done nothing of the sort. She said none of that though and instead simply nodded understandingly.
The knight visibly relaxed a bit more. Sandry's outgoing, friendly nature had almost been enough to put Alanna at ease on its own, especially now that she was no longer jumping at every shadow as she had when she first woke up, but hearing Daja's name finished the job. Daja had been kind and helpful when Alanna had been lost and confused, even when the knight had lost her temper with the mage. It was hard to think ill of either of them.
The Lioness chuckled softly, nodding agreeably. She could definitely see herself liking Sandry. "I agree entirely, Sandry. Titles are often more trouble then they're worth, although they have their uses." Alanna had a number of them herself and she'd make use of them as necessary, but she preferred her name among friends. "Still, I don't see any reason for any unnecessary formality here."
Alanna's eyes turned curious. That was an interesting statement. Her brother liked to study magic, so that he might have been doing precisely that was no surprise, but he didn't usually do it in the company of other mages unless he felt it absolutely necessary. It was certainly possible that he'd changed while here, but he still seemed to be holding himself apart for the most part, at least as far as she could tell. What had they been studying? Thom had told her that he'd been talking with other mages about his magic issues, but he'd never specified who had talked to about it.
Her face now took on a guarded look. It was too big a jump to assume that he could have been talking about Sandry based on just what she'd heard so far. Still, it wouldn't hurt to question further. Toying with the stone around her neck, she asked cautiously, "May I ask what magic you two were studying? Did it have something to do with one of you or was it just generally for the ship?"
