Bendytimed to after Vilgax plot [Open]

Everything hurt, which was why Devlin opened his eyes. Taking a breath was painful--his nose was broken, and when he tried to take a breath through his mouth, he felt the pain from his broken ribs and sternum. He tried not to, but he breathed shakily, as if he was going to cry.

Hikari was busy, sitting in a chair next to Devlin's bed.

Completely passed out. That fight, and having Tailmon evolve to Holy Dramon had taken a lot out of her. And Tailmon as well.

In fact, it wasn't Tailmon that was in Hikari's lap now, but rather Nyaromon. Her partner had reverted all the way to her baby stage, though at least it was the one that could still talk.

Of course, they were both passed out, having not moved from Devlin's side since he had gotten to the med bay.

Devlin looked over to see her out cold with a much smaller stage of Tailmon. The fact that she was in a chair meant that they weren't badly hurt, but it didn't mean he wasn't worried.

"Hikari?" he whispered, barely able to raise his voice.

Hikari shuddered awake, opening her eyes as she faintly heard something.

And then her eyes snapped open once she realized that Devlin was awake. "Devlin?"

She shook her head, sitting up a bit as she looked over at him. "How're you feeling?"

He didn't even try to get up--everything hurt too much.

"Terrible," he admitted. "Are you okay?"

Hikari nodded. "I don't feel too good either," she admitted. Thankfully, her body didn't HURT anymore, but still, knowing that evolving Tailmon to Holydramon like that actually caused her pain was something she wasn't used to dealing with. Her brother, Yamato, and Daisuke and Ken didn't have that problem, so why did she?

"What happened back there?" he asked. "When I woke up that time, it wasn't Angewomon with you..."

"Ugh."

Ben opened his eyes and looked over at Devlin. "Hurts don't it? Always the ribs first..."

Hikari shook her head. "I... really don't know."

Wait, no, she did, but she wasn't exactly sure how she did that. "I mean... I know what happened, but it shouldn't have been able to do that. Tailmon evolved to the Ultimate level." She let out a sigh. "But I don't know how that worked. I've never been able to evolve her that far before."

"I'm glad you did," Devlin insisted. "I wouldn't want Vilgax to hurt you too."

"Ben?" he asked in surprise. He'd tried to change back, not wanting to hurt him when they crashed. Now, he wasn't sure that he'd been able to do the right thing. "Are you okay?"

"I'll live," grunted Ben, trying not to wince. "Vilgax stomped my ribs so I've got a couple of fractures and a bruised one. But it's nothing I haven't experienced before..."

"I tried to help," Devlin insisted. "I didn't want you getting hurt."

"You did good. Better than I would have done back in the day," admitted Ben. He frowned at the way Dev was blaming himself though.

Hikari frowned, looking over at Devlin. "I wish he didn't hurt you either..." she said. "Do... do you want me to get you anything?"

"Really?" Devlin asked. Blaming himself came naturally. Hearing praise was a treasure.

"Maybe a real glass of water," he said, smiling slightly. "You don't want to know what I can taste in the back of my throat."

Hikari couldn't help but giggle a bit when she heard that. "Okay, I'll go get one real quick," she said, standing up and placing Nyaromon on the chair. "I'll be right back," she said, before started heading to find some water for him.

"Yeah. Back in the day, I wouldn't have lasted as long as you did. If I did, the Omnitrix would have just timed out." said Ben. "Trust me you did fine."

Devlin couldn't help but smile.

"Thanks," he said before wincing at the pain in his chest. "Still hurts, though..."

Devlin tried to get himself in a more comfortable position, but it was hard with the pain throughout his body. He was at least able to lift his head and arms and move his legs, but he couldn't shift his weight without pain.

"Yeah I hate to say you'll get used to it, but it sucks all the time." grunted Ben.

Hikari soon came back, glass of water in hand. She held it out to him, waiting for him to take it before she did anything else.

Devlin was as careful as he could be trying to drink the water, but without being able to really lift his body, he spilled a lot all over himself and the bed. Being plant-based, the bed absorbed the water easily, though the trail leading from his mouth was still there.

"Thanks," he said, his voice slightly stronger. "It still hurts, but I can talk a little better now."

"No kidding," he agreed with a sigh.

Hikari nodded, wincing a bit as she noticed how hard of a time he was having drinking. "You'll get better soon," she said, trying to keep the hint of worry out of her voice. And probably failing. A lot.

She wanted to touch him, but she knew if she did that she'd probably hurt Devlin more.
