"Victoria!" Jamie's instinctive reaction is to get her out of the way, scream or no scream, and he tries to do just that - but her falling off rather makes that a moot point. Ignoring the pain from the small amount of coals that fall on him, he quickly moves over to her to her side, bending down to touch her face and reassure himself she's not too badly hurt.

Just seeing her like this makes his heart twist in his chest, and he decides if he ever gets his hands on whoever designed this game, he'll show them a thing or two about hurting someone. Spotting the stick Victoria was carrying, he picks it up, eyeing the box in the corner.

"Aye. We'll just see about needing to get this open with two people." Turning back to her, he says gently, "I'm going to throw the stick, but I need ye to be ready to move if anything falls. Can ye do that for me?"

Putting himself in-between her and the closest box, he takes aim at its latch. If he can hit it just right, maybe the weight of whatever's inside will work in his favor and the box will open. Even without powers, he knows he could stagger a man with an object that's thrown just right, and he's had enough weapons training with Kang to know how to throw that stick for the best effect. And that is precisely what he does, willing to take the brunt of whatever is in there so Victoria doesn't have to.
